Always Look At The Bright Side Of Life

Well, we have been here before, haven't we ? And the title is deliberately chosen to mock the sarcasm associated with it. We stand here, defiant and positive.

Before we begin the dissection and plunge into a couple of hourse of disappointment, let's acknowledge the brilliance of JP Duminy. He played his best innings ever in a T20. That must have been the sweetest 99 ever scored.

I am taking the liberty to focus on some personal positives. We , the chiefs, had the time of our life today evening. Our journey to the stadium was with the team in the RCB official bus. People were waving at the bus through-out the journey. I waved back at a couple of babes, who I am sure couldn't tell the difference between a software engineer and a cricketer. There would be a special post about the bus-journey with snaps and other fun facts.

Then folks, was the show time; the grand opening ceremony was nothing less than a magical experience. Take my word friends, even a million inch television can't do justice to the magnificence of reality, the overwhelming waves that encompassed those on the ground.

I won't talk about the match right now, but would love to hear your analysis in the comments section. I had a wonderful time interviewing Dale Steyn for you guys. He is a fun person to be with. I would be posting the excerpts of the chat with him for those who missed out last night. We would have a similiar chat session in the next match as well. You guys better not miss the opportunity. Here's a snap of the good times we both were having while answering your interesting questions.

Its been a gem of an innings by that lil man Duminy… we all need to applaud.. !!

if you want to look at it in microscopically… maybe Anil came off at the wrong time and shouldnt have allowed Virat to bowl at a pressure time allowing the partnership to flower..

but RCB didnt play badly… they must simply bow to a wonderfully talented lil man who played one of the best 20-20 innings we ever saw.. !!! smile

It was a fantastic match, though the writing on the wall for us began when they crossed 50.

The good news is:

1. RCB is always a slow starter.
2. Uthappa’s ‘Memories of IPL2’ is now consigned to dustbin
3. We lost narrowly - so in case of a 3-way tie, we don’t have a huge overdraft to clear
4. The match on 12th will be even more engaging and exciting to look forward to.

Just a thought: We need to raise the bar on ‘targets to set’...this is Champions League - it takes just one champion to invade the opponent’s camp and ###### the match away.

Footnote: 2 schoolkids, around 8-10 years were discussing the match - at 6.50 in the morning. One was telling the other, in chaste English: “Kumble should not have asked Vinay Kumar to bowl the last over!!!”

WOW, how I wish such lovely kids be active participants in this Fan Club posts! It simply took away all my disappointment of having lost the match smile

Time and again, how crucial have these opening matches been for all the teams now. Having posted a score that was way over their expectations, I thought RCB would be pumped up when they came out to field. It started out that way when we gobbled up two quick wickets however it was quickly exposed how one-dimensional the captainship and the bowling was when Duminy was showing his class. RCB did not realize the importance of the match. What was Anil thinking by asking Virat to bowl towards the end of the game?? The fielding was abysmal, and the field setting was pretty typical too…

Other than Ross, no one really performed in the match today. Uthappa was jittery (as always) to being with. He never seems to improve. Rahul, Virat all batted ok but never really had the swagger to destroy an opposition who were really not very well known.

I thought Cape Cobras would be dominated, exposed when they play for the first time under huge crowd, hazy bangalore evenings and not to mention the quality of players and how well known they are around the world having played in hundreds of games over the last decade. In fact, it was obvious they (Cobras) were feeling the pressure when they came out to field. RCB were not really prepared for a win today…

Kudos to Cobras the way they’ve handled the pressure (through their senior players) and RCB have some thinking to do or they would be out of this tournament even before the buzz faded…

We could say RCB tried, batted well, started to bowl well etc etc but does it really matter if they don’t win a crucial home game against an unpopular side…

I really think Boucher should make way to Dale Steyn and Rahul could handle the gloves…More so, Virat/Uthappa should be dropped for the next game. Its really not fair to drop someone on one performance but the players I mention have been taking it too easy for sometime now.

For what’s worth, I still think RCB is an awesome team with some exceptional talent. They need to realize that they need to win games and not just play cricket for the sake of it. smile

adios,
draidus
