Hope you’l are aware of the new player retention regulations and the schedule for IPL 4!!! (if not pls read it up )
Player Retention:
Teams can retain any 4 players for a pre-decided price of 4.5 million. The player cap is 9 million. So if RCB decide to retain 4 players then we’re left with 4.5 million to buy 26 other players.. Please share your thoughts on the same…
Should RCB retain any players? If yes, suggest the names… its gonna be real tough planning!!!!

my initial thoughts are retain - robin, kp, ross, steyn.

Dravid is my favourite but i don think too many teams will be interested so we can buy him at the auction without paying too much, ditto with kumble (if he’s still playing).

On the other hand, if we don retain anyone - then we’l have 9 million to play with.. but robin and ross and kp to an extent might be tough to acquire.. share your thoughts….

Anywho, I have no idea and the Mallya clan need to really think this through. Need to retain Kumble and Dravid, but the idea of not outright retaining them and thinking to bid for them in the auction is hazy to say the least. Suppose you don’t get them, and one of them goes to Pune for all we know, it’ll be a freaking nightmare. This huge fan base is created because people love Kumble and Dravid; they’re the local heroes and you can’t conveniently ignore that. And also it would be quite degrading, paying a Ross Taylor or Dale Steyn more than them… It’s all quite tricky. Ideally, I’d want Kumble, Dravid, Taylor, Steyn, Uthappa in the team; the method to the madness will have to be decided by Mallya. The CLT20 will be crucial…

And guys one thing’s for sure - Rahul Dravid is our man, we cannot afford to lose him.. and i have my doubts bout anil bhai playing next season.. we’l probably know after the champions league… gonna miss this team so much :(

@Maddy.. Agree Dravid is the biggest pillar….He’s our wall….
I would ideally prefer Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Robin Uthappa and either Ross Taylor/Dale Steyn/ J Kallis

But RCB needs Ross, Steyn and Kallis cannot lose them out…

(aren’t icon player retained by default apart from 4 ???)

We should retain the current “hot property” in the IPL Arena (so that they can’t be bought by others) : i.e Steyn, KP, Uthappa and Kumar (although he is not really “hot property”) and buy back the rest of our players like Dravid, Kallis, Kumble, Kohli, Pandey, Vinay Kumar and of course Taylor

We would need re-inforcements in the form of a bowling all-rounder capable of batting lower down.. a full time bowler will also suffice, taking into account our batting strength.

But this also means that we get US$4.5m to spend to buy the remaining players, as compared to the 9m we would otherwise have. Tough choice :(

Well said and I completely agree to it.

Retaining players does not make any sense…. why spend 4.5 million before the auction.

who ever may be the players u guys are telling to retain, will be available in auction and can be brought well below the 4.5 million mark..
hence giving more options to purchase more quality players.

I just feel 7 out of the 10 IPL teams will not retain any player… only MI , CSK , DI these teams will retain players for sure.
They are the once behind this retention rule.

MI want: SACHIN, POLLARD, MALINGA, BHAJJI/ZAK!!

CSK : DHONI, RAINA, Murali!!

DI: SEHWAG, GAUTI !! (GAUTI is not worth 1.3 million though), WARNER, NANNES !!

Except for SACHIN, DHONI, SEHWAG WHO pull crowds to the stadium and help in incresing the fan base. I dont see any player worth paying 1.8 million…... So GUYS dont be surprised if no player is retained !! .. This is a more practical approach guys

guys the regulations say - team can retain a maximum of 3 Indian Players. It is nowhere mentioned that we cant retain more than one foreign player.. Please correct me if m wrong..

Max of 3 Indian players yes, but a total of 4 Players can be retained. Should they be foreigners, then only 2 at the most can be retained.

so If 3 Indian players are retained, the other has to be a foreigner!
