@Anoop S:I totally agree with you.I was in fact baffled not to see Manish Pandey in the line-up,considering that he had performed well in the practice games. He had shown signs of regaining his form, which he had clearly lost after the Ranji Trophy.Let me make it clear. He is the most exciting of the talents that India has seen in recent times. Its upto the team to give him the required push.I see him as a future no.6 for India in the tests and, that will not be very far of.His sort of a talent should be thrust at the highest level as early as possible. Its not a talent which needs to be groomed at the domestic level for 12 years. In that scenario,we might as well lose it.Hope Kumble can do a Ganguly, whose decision to make Sehwag open the batting in test cricket will go down in the annals of the game.I bet no other captain would have taken such a gamble.I would strongly suggest playing Pandey in the coming matches.Dravid can bat at his customary no.3 position. There is no way that we can expect Manish Pandey to get into the Indian team unless he is given as many opportunities as possible, especially with our stinking selection committee(look at the selection of Ravindra Jadeja for the BP’s IX match vs Australia, three day game at that).Lets show faith in Pandey, and he will come good.

Yes, Dravid should open.
I agree panday has missed out. not only panday vinay, mithun also.
but, team composition is imp.
It is nice to have 6 good bowling options when you are facing some strong team like MI.
panday has defects in his technique when facing swinging deliveries.

I have not mentioned that Manish Pandey has a flawless game.He has his own way of tackling the situations and he has to hone his skills. But there is absolutely no doubt about his talent.
And I do not believe that he is not good at facing the swinging deliveries.Remember the Ranji final,on a seaming wicket, where the Mumbai bowlers were frugal,he followed the ball and hit it through its line. Its not an one-off thing. We had seen it in IPL-2 and CLT20 last year.I am quite convinced about his game.Yes he has to face more challenges and should come out with flying colours. All this can happen only if we show faith in him.And he will not get a better platform than to play with the likes of Dravid,Kallis and Kumble.Hope he will be a part of the team in the coming matches.

Dravid shud be at 3. n open with robin-kallis.  dont get baffled by this 1 game whr dravid n kallis put in a good opening stand. its was a easy pitch with damn low quality bowlers especialy the spinner. if its low total we r chasing then dravid- kallis is fine. othrwise bring in robin to exploit the powerplays with kallis. thr is ross, white, kohli for big shots at the end.  Dravid wasted a good opportunity to get a 50 yestrday.
@chandra- I think if we play manish, its only th opening slot to be considered for him.  Now dont get too impressed by Ranji form.  thr r many youngstrs doing excellently in domestic cricket bt not good at international level. If to retain his spot, he bettr get scoring at 150 rate n more which he so often doesnt do. Powerplays r so crucial. going at high rate thr can reduce pressure a lot for the rest of th batting. Robin-kallis seem best for me. Y not let ur inform explosive star used powerplays especially becoz we even got when we got enuf big hitting talent low down.

@Holmes:Its not getting impressed by watching one-off game, which was the ranji final. We have been seeing Pandey right from the time he scored that hundred in IPL-2.Your argument that all those who do well in Ranji would not do well at the intl. level might hold some water,as the top five run-getters in Ranji have hardly played any tests, except for Brijesh Patel, who was quite ordinary at the tests. But it all has to be viewed differently from one individual to another.Ultimately selection is all about the right timing.G R Vishwanath was considered good enough for test after a double hundred vs a paltry Andhra bowling attack in his debut domestic game.He went on to make a hundred on his test debut as well vs the Aussies at Kanpur. He is considered as one of the best best batsmen we have produced.Gavaskar was too good on his first tour to the Windies.Tendulkar played his first test before his domestic debut.
By no means do I venture into comparing Pandey with these great players at this stage. All I mean to say is that he should be given opportunity on this kind of platform to prove himself. How else do you expect him to have a strike rate of 150.More accomplished players in our team have a far lesser strike rate than that. There is no harm in backing a talent, and that too when its an attacking batsman,in the T20 format.
About Uthappa,I believe that its a collective decision of the team management, taking him into confidence, that he would be playing in the middle order.Even he might be wanting the same.So no qualms as long as he can score the way he did yesterday and hopefully get selected for the Indian team.

Rahul Dravid should open with Kallis at any cost.If uthappa opens he wont cross 5.@Holmes:Your post reads that they had low quality bowlers.it indirectly means that Dravid cant handle top quality bowling.Dude seriously please stop posting craps.I just fear a ban if i abuse people so you are still surviving. Now dont come up with any kind of explanation trying to convince people around.Your post could mean only that.

There is no need to hit every ball to a sixer.
Dravid & kallis can easily score 75 in 10ovrs.
Uthappa,Taylor, white to follow they can easily score 100 in next 10.
In SA score willn’t exceed 175.
Good thing with akhil is, he can hit right from first ball and adds extra strength to bowling department, Which is weaker link of RCB.
He is ideal person to bat at No.7.
If we take panday than He/RD/kohli has to bat at that spot.
I think it’s not fair.
Yesturdays combination is quite good in those circumstances.

I might seem to be bragging a lot about Pandey, but its not without evidence of his talent. Now,there are many players who would score a 1000 runs in a season of the Ranji, but all do not get selected because of the obvious reasons. That they do it mostly on flat tracks.
Consider this….
1.Our 1st Ranji match vs UP at Meerut. We were 27-3 on the 1st morning when Pandey joined Drvid at the crease. He ended up with 194 on that day, adding 273 with Dravid in the process. We go on to win the match.
2.Another group game vs Baroda, away game on a reportedly bowler-friendly pitch.Karnataka do not score much in the first essay.Baroda does worse. In their second go,K’taka found themselves in a similar position before Pandey scored a 114 rallying around with the tailenders, against an attack that had Irfan Pathan. We go on to win the game.
3.The quarter-final at Mysore vs Punjab.Dravid won the toss and,he opted to bowl and we conceded 300 runs before getting them all out. Then we were quite comfortable till Dravid and Uthappa were there at the crease till about a score of around 130.Then we see ourselves with 6 wickets down for about 180odd.Manish gets with the tailenders and scores a fantastic 115 to take us past them to 373,along with the help of Vinay. The article in Deccan Herald the day after described Manish as too mature a player for his age,the way he attacked Manpreet Gony and Love Ablish. They are no Mcgrath or Gillespie, but this is domestic cricket. And Mysore wicket helps almost all types of seam bowlers. We go through to the semis based on the 1st innings lead.
4.The Ranji final at Mysore. This,in my book,is among the top five cricket matches that I have watched since 1996,when I started to watch the game, both intl. and domestic. Not that all-time great team played it,but for its sheer compititiveness and the thrilling contest that it offered for 4 days. The last session on the 3rd day and the first on the fourth is unforgettable, just because of Pandey’s brilliance. It was a shame that 9 of our batsmen hardly made any contribution, had even the other batsmen chipped in with 20s and 30s,we would have won the competition.

Pandey ended up with 882 runs, the highest for that season, and a strike rate of 80.This stat of 80 SR has never been achieved by any batsman in the history of Ranji cricket, according to the records.Besides,he scored a couple of fifties to help us chase down targets during the league stage. And who can forget that catch he took off Abhishek Nayar in Mumbai’s 2nd innings.

All this might not make him a Don Bradman, but at least demands that we only back him to come good.I am sure we can.

@mady-  I havnt started watching cricket jst some days ago. I have seen enuf of dravid n know too well about him.  Did u see the bowling?  Even th comemtators said that dont hav tht enuf quality players required at this stage.  who r u to read my mind n decide what i ment to say? who r u to say Robin cant go more than 5? Is thr logic in these statements?
@chandra- Ok. i didnt mean to say about quality of Manish.  he was excellent in IPL2 n was too good in ranji. no doubt . Bt its not good to go by the past too much.  He certainly doesnt seem the player he was now. That mst be the main reason he wasnt played ystrday considering his current form. The team always comes first. Thr r 15 good people in the sqaud. It does seem manish shud do lot better to maintain his spot.  Now robin seems the most destructive n better than most batsmen at the moment. Y not open with him. he is familier with that position.  I dont see a better batter in the side who cud exploit the powerplays as he can.
@reddy- hehe! its not that way dude. scoring 100 in last 10 is no joke. its hardly happens often.  N we have high class opposition with very good bowlers.

Uthappa is a player who rides on sheer luck and power.Unlike Uthappa,Dravid has got all the class of Bradman,W.G.Grace and other greats like Sir Leonard Hutton.so u cant put in uthappa to open ahead of dravid.

@Holmes:I do agree that Manish lost his form after the Ranji Trophy. He did not do well in the domestic one-day tournament. He had a bad tour of England with the A team.He somewhat recovered on the Emerging players tour to Australia. But more importantly,he played well in the practice games with scores of 40 and 50.He might be playing well.So why make him warm the benches.Play him instead.Bad form is never a big concern, and its bound to happen to a young player after some remarkable performances. All that is required is for the player to introspect himself about his game and he would emerge stronger.
About Uthappa,I am convinced that it is him too who wants to bat in the middle order. As long as he can contribute to the team significantly there,I am fine with his position.

we dont really need qualities of Hutton or Grace here!!!... Did i say Robin shud open in tests?  what luck u mean? he often mishits n fielders drop catches? What cricket r u watching? isnt power needed in T20? He is becoming a specialist in this format. Even fast 25-30 is good enuf from a opener in T20.  What era u live in?  look at the way game is changing and what r the needs!

@chandra- ur right.  bt the thing is. thr r replacable players in the squad. thou he is higly talented, he isnt the x-factor or very vital part. so for him to retain a spot, he bettr be good most times. If he has lost it, thn he may get it if othrs fail n he need to utilise tht chance fully.  Its not just about getting 40-50 now. its also to gets them briskly as a opener. he bettr get them at abt 150 rate.  N thr is no room for underperforming players to be givn chance to get in form in a big tournament. u bettr play th best 11. He shud be getting his touch back in thos tours n othr domestic matches…. Lets c what happen now.  he may get back his place as well

If Pandey has to play then either Akhil or Nayan Doshi has to sit out… now we have the cushion of having the 6th bowler… and akhil did well in the practice game with the bat… dravid and kallis opening is ideal on these wickets , even if we are 70 for 1 after ten, it gives a brilliant platform for Rob, Ross and white to launch!!!

mady-  cricket is just the same? Test, Odis, T20 is jst the same u feel?  I jst dont understand from whr u get such thoughts! whr u read like this? U simply make ur own statments. when asked fr wht reasoning behind it, thr is no answer to it.  style of batting isnt the concern. what matters is u help the team win.  I dont regret sayng anythng about dravid that i hav said so far anywhr. if u havnt liked, i m waiting fr wht u wht to give at me.  Then jst dont stop the matter sayng ur ending now, whtevr it be dravid is best fr u, no use talking with such people, etc etc… Thts wht u do when u cant argue further!

——————————Guys———————————————
This is south Africa not Bangalore and it is not necessary to score 180 and above all the times…................
And u r missing something like the next two RCB games are at Durban where 150 will be more than Enough….............
The only pitch where u will require more than 180 in south Africa would be   “New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg”.....................
So u see Rahul and Kaills should open no matter what specaily in south Africa ..................
The only change i guess should be bring in Mithun or Kumar in place of NAYAN DOSHI as the next two matches are in Durban
fast and bouncing track…..........................
