As we all know Indian Premier League is one of most successful running league after the downfall of Cricket Premier League which was started by Kapil Dev. The whole idea of IPL was formed by Lalit Modi who was the Chairman and Commissioner. IPL started of in the year 2008 when its 1st Season took place. Each and every cricket fans were excited about IPL for many things like the 1st auctions of IPL and excited to see their favourite Cricket stars under one roof and in one team. Even the players were excited to know who will buy them, whom will they play along with so finally everything took place and 8 Teams were formed. Teams were given their identity based on selected cities.
Like how the league created intense interest among all, the team names which were named also turned out to be very very interesting ones also based upon the cities. The eight teams of IPL which were formed are:
• Royal Challengers Bangalore
• Hyderabad Deccan Chargers
• Chennai Super Kings
• Delhi Daredevils
• Kings XI Punjab
• Kolkata Knight Riders
• Mumbai Indians
• Rajasthan Royals
Few of the most popular teams and iconic status players were Royal Challengers Bangalore owned by Vijay Mallya of UB Group which had Rahul Dravid in it. Mumbai Indians owned by Mukesh Ambani which had Indian mastero Sachin Tendulkar, Kolkata Knight Riders owned by superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla led by Ganguly,Chennai Super Kings by India captain M.S.Dhoni himself. Among all the teams Rajasthan Royals was treated to be as underdogs lead by Shane Warne, the team which created history and won 1st season of IPL 2008 by beating a popular Chennai Super Kings Team. Rajasthan Royals had many unknown faces of Indian players and also foreign players who were not well known and still they turned out to be victorious proving to the world that big names does not always wins matches. 20-20 cricket was played at its best. Everyone wanted more than 4 foreign players in their playing 11 but it was fair enough to set this rule which gave opportunities and platform to the youngsters to showcase themselves in such a big event playing along with the popular names.
The 2009 season of IPL led to disappointment of millions of Indian fans who were eagerly waiting for the series to start so they good enjoy the match in the stadium but it was declared that it had to be moved out to South Africa rather than being played in India. The fans accepted the fact and finally this season too turned out to be very successful one. One of the most fascinating concept of this league was all the teams had strong players, match winners and each teams had equal chance to win the series. It was just all about who played better cricket and this is what exactly happened in 2nd Season of IPL 2009 when Deccan Chargers led by Aussie powerpuff Adam Gilchrist after Laxman was removed from captaincy emerged victorious even though they were last ranked team in previous season. They played the finals against the Bangalore team who was also ranked 7th in last season.
Lalit Modi promised everyone that IPL will be back in India and he kept his promise the 2010 season did take place in India and it turned out to be another wonderful season where Chennai emerged victorious against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Royal Challengers Bangalore which was termed as Test team for 20-20 format and criticized by many turned out to be one of the most consistent performing team reaching finals in 2 season being runner-up.
Now coming to the point that if IPL-4 be as fascinating as its previous editions or not, we can say that yes it it going to be one of the most fascinating seasons of IPL. The season started off on an exciting note of 2 more new teams being added namely Sahara Pune warriors and Kochi and this was done through auctions. Many issues, problems and controversies has taken place for this season. Modi was suspended due to financial wrong doings which was one of the biggest shock for IPL and Chirayu Amin was appointed as interim chairman for IPL and we are all sure he will do an excellent job in coming seasons. There were issues surrounding Kochi team and it was solved later on. Rajasthan Royals and Punjab teams were also in trouble with BCCI suspending them and even going to the extent of going to court but matter got resolved and finally we will have 10 teams playing in the exciting IPL-4 season.
Adding to all this excitement one of cricket great Brian Lara expressed his desire to play this season and he has featured in top bracket for the auctions. Would be interesting to see if we get to see Lara play with Sachin or Rahul Dravid or in any other team. Also many new players from England and other countries would be taking part making this season and this season auctions also more interesting .
All of us are eagerly waiting for a fascinating season of IPL-4 to kick start as boundaries will be scored, we will see plenty of big hits, new records will be made, the cheerleaders will dance all along and history will be made yet again. Due to IPL many unknown faces and some of the most talented players such as Manish Pandey,Y.Pathan,R.Ashwin,P.Ojha, just to name a few have emerged and are even playing for India. All we can say is IPL is going to be most exciting in this one and with many more seasons to come.
