The IPL Governing Council has said that the former Indian skipper and Kolkata Knight Riders captain Sourav Ganguly will not play in the IPL this year. This comes after there were requests from teams to buy him from outside the auction but it has been reported that there were three teams which opposed his selection.
The reason for this opposition is said to be the flouting of rules that it would have brought about. According to the IPL rules no cricketer who has been a part of the auction but not selected will be allowed to play in any of the teams unless he is a replacement for someone.
It was alleged that IPL Kochi were looking to get in Ganguly in their side after the auction but they had denied the same.
Now, the only way that Ganguly can play in the tournament is if some of the players get injured and the team takes him up as a replacement. What remains to be seen is whether Ganguly would want to play in the tournament in the case, as a replacement player.
Why Ganguly is not a part of IPL 4?
