There is a lot of awareness among today’s youth regarding the environmental issues, but people don’t know how to contribute. RCB is there for its fans in their endeavor to Go Green.

Start using eco-friendly articles like organic clothes and eco-friendly bags like jute, cotton bags rather than plastic bags.

Here’s some insights on organic clothing:

I know organic clothes would give you images of clothes that are not stylish & fashionable. But these imaginations were probably true a decade ago, today organic & alternative fibers have come a long way and some of the biggest fashion labels across the globe are going organic. In fact entire fashion shows across fashion capitals of the world are going green.

Organic clothing is grown completely without the use of chemical fertilizers. This is healthy for the environment as it helps minimize air, water & soil pollution. The clothes are made of natural, non-synthetic materials. Organic clothing  material comes from plants that have not been genetically, radiated modified or treated with synthetic/chemical pesticides.

Though agreed an organic range appears a little more expensive than the usual, but after all the extra pay will go a long way in keeping our environment clean, green & healthy.

A wonderful poem that we got from a young RCB Green Enthusiast, Swati. Thanks so much.

One by one, they tried to reach my peak;

But their chances of capturing it always remained bleak.

I, the mighty Himalayas remained invincible and unreachable for long;

Until Tensing and Hillary climbed up and sang the victory song.

And from that day onwards I‘ve had many guests visiting me;

But the grief is, there was something more than just their glee.

Unknowingly, they committed a great sin;

By dumping   garbage, plastic , metal and treating me like a dustbin.

But this alone is not my plight;

My friends the atmosphere, land and water showcase a similar sorrowful sight.

But the biggest sufferer will eventually be man;

As nature will pay back in the same coin, leading to wide scale destruction.

Mercury level is rising day by day;

Rapid industrial growth isn’t the right way.

This leading to melting glaciers and floods in some areas;

Giving rise to dreadful diseases like dengue and malaria.

Torrential rains on one hand,

While sandstorms on another land.

These are the vicious effects of global warming;

Giving  enough fear and warning.

 Hope mankind awakens at least now;

With united efforts to avert this great disaster and save many living species from extinction.

In continuation to our guide to green living for our fans, today we recommend the following:

“Use light colors for painting your walls, ceilings and floors”

Light color plays a very important role in bringing down electricity bill of the house. Light colored paint reflects light whereas dark colored paint absorbs light. Hence, painting walls, ceilings and floors with light colored paint can reduce the artificial lighting requirements of the house. So, keep this in mind when ever there is a renovation happening at your home.

We would also like to remind our fans that your active involvement, participation, and support is at the heart of RCB’s green initiatives. The green initiatives at RCB are for the fans, of the fans and by the fans. After a long break, it’s time for you all to get back into the driver’s seat and guide the green initiatives by posting your comments, suggestions and feedback.

Now since IPL-3 is over and Champions league is expected to start only in early September, we would like ours fans to take the centre stage and take our green initiatives forward by going green in their day to day activities. For all those who think that going green is a cumbersome and lengthy process, just look at how RCB went green this IPL by taking simple and effective measures like RCB buses, waste segregation at stadium, car pooling etc. We are not asking you to do different things here; we just want you to do them smartly and differently to ensure that we do less or no damage to our environment in the whole process. From today, we will be posting possible steps that can be undertaken by you in your daily routine to reduce your personal carbon footprint. To start with, today we encourage our fans to reduce their energy consumption at home by doing the following:

“Reduce the cooling requirements at home by using ceiling fans in conjunction with air conditioners”

Using ceiling fans in conjunction with air conditioners ensures that the cooled air spreads uniformly throughout the room. This makes it possible to run the air conditioner at a higher temperature without compromising on the comfort levels!!! Each degree rise in temperature setting reduces the electricity bill by around 3-4 % and hence this initiative will not only reduce your environmental impact but will also reduce your monthly electricity bills.

Do post your comments, feedback and if possible reduction in your monthly electricity bills due to this initiative.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is “Many Species. One Planet. One Future”. The concept of biodiversity preservation deserves and more importantly needs better environmental attention. UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) has done the right thing by drawing the world’s attention to the problem of biodiversity preservation. RCB’s Indian fans must be aware of the recent “Save our tigers” campaign launched by a telecom company in association with WWF to draw people’s attention to the issue of illegal poaching of tigers. We need more of such initiatives to make people understand and acknowledge the need for preserving biodiversity.

Preserving biodiversity has been a very integral part of RCB’s green initiatives. You all must have seen Dr. Vijay Mallaya, Siddhart Mallaya and RCB players watering sapling (locally rare species were chosen) before the match on 25th of March. Similarly, the sapling project for fans was aimed at planting more and more trees to ensure that we live by our reputation of being the Garden City of India. We look forward to receiving more ideas in this regard from our fans in the Go Green category of Idea Champion competition. See you all at the Fan Summit on 12th June.

After a long hiatus, green is back in action. The simmering heat (everywhere except our Bengaluru?) is one of the many proofs of global warming, and we all wish that if someone can somehow reduce some amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and help reduce the temperature to pleasant,  as it was in those good old days! The search for that someone starts and ends with you, infact everyone of us is that someone and it is time to take action now. And RCB is Game for Green!

The Green Initiatives of RCB was a first for any sporting event in the history of India; it was also a first for any cricket match in the history of the game. With so many firsts attached, who else but RCB is expected to be involved and lead the way!

We will soon be sharing with you the green initiatives taken during IPL and the impact they had. Interestingly our metric for measuring impact was dual-environmental impact reduction and also fan engagement. Infact the second factor was as important as the first if not more, as you know RCB always believes in the philosophy of for the fans, by the fans and of the fans.

One of our most interesting initiatives in which we had the most fun was the RCB Bus. Though we had it only for 2 matches, it was great to be with all RCB fans together, singing, dancing, waving RCB flags and at the same time reducing the carbon footprint. You can catch a few glimpses of the fun we had while reducing our environmental impact in the video. Special thanks to our brilliant Videographer Vivek for the video.

We will soon get back to you on the IPL-3 initiatives, some small little things that you can do to lead a green life and lots of other interesting stuff to save our planet.  RCB is Game for Green, Are You?
