PHASE 1 : Gourav Bhattacharjee's review for rc's performance
After the performance of IPL2 the expectations level of fans, franchise have rosed to the sky.RCB tagged as one of the of the strongest contenders of IPL3.They look best side on paper.Let's see whether they did able to match up to our and as well as their expectations. Match1: KKR was truly better team on that day..Ganguly won the crucial toss and we had worst possible start to the innings..Morgan was looking terrific and busy as always but I don't know what is the problem with England guys. They look good playing orthodox cricketing shot but time and again they try to play some cheeky shots which really isn't required at all..As Morgan bowled by karthik playing reverse sweep..I think his wicket along with Rahul's was really crucial..But still,we had posted a competitive total on that pitch..But blistering start by KKR opener specially Tiwary took the game away from us..Even with that small total we had really fought well.. Match2: Again in this match too we had a worst possible start as punjab opener piled on runs at brisk rate..They really hammered our bowlers all round the park and posted a imposing total of over 200..But this time with bat we made a decent start and then at no 3 our own Robbie came to the party and announced himself at IPL.His innings was the most crucial innings of entire IPL for RCB.If RCB lost that match it would be really difficult for RCB to lift their spirit for the whole tournament. His innings along with Kallis made sure that we overhauled that huge total to open our account at IPL. Match3: This was what is called a perfect match for RCB.They shined both in bowl and bat.Praveen kumar was adjudged man of the match and rightly so.He took the only hat-trick in IPL3.He bamboozled three top order batsmen of RR and ensured that RCB batsmen needed to chase a paltry total. But Praveen didn't seem to continue his form in further matches and that was one of the reason of RCB's poor performance at league stage. Match4: This was actually clash of the two giants.Steyn had really came into his own from this match. He took wickets of dangerous Jaysuriya and Pollard. He and praveen really strated well for us which was crucial. Then at middle tight bowling from Vinay kumar took three wickets including Little Master Scahins' in the space of few balls really peg down MI.But they did post good total thanks to late flourish by Zaheer. Then ever so dependent Kallis again proved his worth and made a solid Half-century ensuring a easy win for RCB. Match5: I think best thing that can happen to RCB in that match was loosing the toss.Because if they had won that they will chooso to chase which I think might not be a great strategy. Our start was shaky. We kept on loosing wicket and was going very slowly.Until Uthappa again showed his class. He just murdered Balaji and Ashwin.I think it was a tactical mistake to bring in Ashwin when Uthappa was in that sort of mood.It really cost them the match and gave RCB their straight 4th win. After such a score it was upto bowlers to bowl in good areas and they did.PK and Steyn kept them under control. And after such a slow start CSK has to target one of RCB bowler. And there came Vinay. He bowled in good areas and benifited by early pressure put on by PK,Steyn and Kumble. Match6: Against Delhi we started pretty well.Though Warner looked threatening but he didnt keep it going. After Warner's wicket we reallt checked their scoring rate until unnamed Kedar Jadhav came to the crease.we were very much on course to keep them under 160 after the wickets of karthik and De villiers but Kedar had other idea.He along with Mcdonald showed the lack of depth bowling of RCB.They piled on runs.It was a stiff target and needed a good start.Openers did give them a steady start but they were always lagging behind the rate. This had been a major problem for RCB through out the tournament. So,all we hoping for a another heroics from Robbie but it was not his night and after his departure there was really no hope for RCB.Kholi did try but it was too late. Match7: KP and White being in the team RCB really was looking favourite. But as always RCB openers failed to give them a good start.Although,Kallis did score a well-compiled Half century but considering the format and the no of wicket they had,his effort was really questionable.Thans to the late order hitting by KP and White that RCB posted a good total on the board. But this wasn't proved enough. As we saw a brilliant innings from Vijay. As a cricket fan I really enjoyed his batting. He followed this by another marvellous century innings against RR.He took the game away from us.He was really severe on PK.It was really shocking to see India's regular fast bowler to look for shelter. But it did raise some question on Kallis strike rate.I think Kumble was persisting with him truly because of his all-round capability. Considering all it was a pretty good phase for RCB but it did raise some concerns on the form of the batsmen except Uthappa and Kallis.RCB's death bowling was also under the scanner.

PHASE 2 : Gourav Bhattacharjee's review for rc's performance
After the four wins in the previous seven matches the men in RED just needed to win four of their remaining seven matches to ensure sure place in semis. Match8: Result:-RCB won by 6 wkts It's yet another dreadful perfomance by RCB bowlers.KXIP again piled onto yet another huge score against RCB.KXIP scored 180 odd run in 20 overs. But in the end we did win the match thanks to the yet another heroics from Robbie. The KXIP bowlers lacked the venom to stop Royal Challengers Bangalore Pros: Master class innings from Kevin Pieterson. Match winning partnership between Virat and KP. Superb finishing touch by Robbie. Starting well with the bowl. Cons: Pandey's aweful form cntinues. Poor bowling in depth overs again. Decisive Moments: Sreesanth dropped an easy catch of Virat at Long-On and Bopara dropped KP.And as we say catches win matches after such lapses by Punjab fielders there sould be only one winner and that was the case. And lastly Captain joined the party.Sangakara not only dropped the catch of KP but also managed to kick the ball to the boundary. And after all these stuff Punjab was very much in the game as RCB needed 48 runs form 4 overs. But then came Indian "boom boom" man Robbie. He started the over with a huge six over straight boundary of a low fulltoss by Lee.One of the toughest shot is to hit a low full toss that to a at the speed of 140.Ultimately Robbie took 25 runs and sealed the match literally. Match9: Result:Delhi Daredevils won by 37 runs. After a good start with the bowl RCB lost the track in middle thanks to the superb uncharacteristic innings by Collingwood. And after posting 184 on the board on a slow and low track of Delhi DD really looked favourite to win the macth and that got assured after the opening stand by White and Kallis Pros: Superb opening over by Kumble against two most devastating batsmen Warner and Shewag. Apanna really proved his place in the team and took the full advantage of the slow Delhi pitch. Mithun impressed everyone with his pace and bounce. Cons: Slow start by newly formed opening duo White and Kallis. Yet another 50 by Kallis but surely he should have accelrated the innings bit more. Dropping Steyn out of the team. Putting dravid so low down the order. After a match winning against Punjab KP looked awefully out of touch. Decisive Moments: RCB has started pretty well and after the superb catch by White at cover to dismiss Dinesh Karthik it was RCB who had the upper hand. But then Kumble gave the bowl to White who really provided the much needed momentum to DD innings.Collingwood thumped two sixes and a four to round off a potentially game-changing 19 run over. That was one experiment not expected from Kumble. Match 10: Result:DC won the game by 7 wkts It was a must win game for DC to have a place in semis. And they really charged their way to victory.RCB did well with the bat thanks to the late order flourish by Virat,Kallis and White but our bowlers really gifted the match to DC. Pros: Yet another classy fifty from Kallis. Smashing knock by Virat kohli going from 12 off 18 balls to 58 off 35. Amazing hitting by White.Smoking two sixes in his ultra short inning of just 3 balls. Starting off well with the bowl restricting batsmen under required rate. Cons: Bowlers missed their mark bowling too many slower balls at death. Taylor and Pandey failed again Decisive Moments: After the departure of inform Rohit Sharma RCB really was looking favourite to win the game. But the symbolic moment was yet to come.Symonds had to make good for his bowling effort, and he did by thumping Praveen Kumar in 16th over. An edge flew over the keeper, a slower ball was deposited over midwicket, and a yorker-gone-wrong hit into the sight screen. Forty-nine from 24 balls had become 28 off 18, and from there it was only a matter of playing of time. Match 11: Result:RCB won the match by 7 wkts After back to back loss it was absolutely must win game for RCB and didnt they perform like champions. Pros: Brilliant recovery by the bowlers to restrict KKR to 160 after their smashing start by scoring 100 runs in mere 11 overs. Wall of Indian cricket for so many years did it RCB for this time by scoring well compiled knock 52 runs in just 35 balls. Uthappa with Taylor to seal a thumping win. Cons: Praveen kumar's dismal form continued. Sriram who choosed inplace of Pandey started very slow and put pressure on the batsman at the other end. Decisive Moments: There are quite a few.First one was surely Sourav's wicket of Vinay.Crucial one was when Kumble also induced a mis-timed pull from an unbalanced McCullum and had him caught on the square-leg boundary. Kolkata's hopes of 180 ended there and Kumble finished with figures of 1 for 17. Some wow moments: A skier headed towards Ross, looking likely to cross the boundary.Taylor jumped and swatted the ball back on to the field, saving five runs. Reverse sweep by Uthappa of Mendis to hit a six.The manner in which he dispatched the ball really proved the man's confident in his ability. Match 12: Result:Deccan won the match by 13 runs The league table was absolutely wide open.Six teams were looking for a place into semis. At that crucial juncture RCB lost to DC to add to worry to their way to semis. Pros: Steyn and Vinay started the bowling in best possible way. Steyn's fiery spell of bowling resulted in Gilchrist,Gibbs and inform Suman's wicket. Dravid and Robbin again came to the party. Cons: Kallis's slow batting. Pandey had done it again. White,Taylor and Virat was unable to stay at wicket with Robbie. Decisive Moments: This one actually is really easy. They say a game can be won or lost in one ball. And it was really the case.It was the slower one. What's more, it was the one bowled like the legbreak from Harmeet singh who accounted for RCB's lost in previous year's IPL final also, took the wicket of dangerous Uthappa.Kumble rightly pointed out the slow batting from Kallis but more interestingly he had his place in the next match. Some decent contribution from the likes of White,Taylor or Virat would surely reversed the fate of the match. Match13: Result:RCB won the match 5 wkts It was merely Deja vu.RCB went on with their business pretty well and beat RR with a stamp of authority. Pros: Brilliant performance by the bowlers. Pankaj singh proved his point in his home town by picking up 2 wickets. KP had to prove a point after loosing his spot for two matches. And he was really at his blistering best. Cons: Manish was really the most consistent performer in RCB batting line up.You could hardly expect runs from him at the top. Virat's attitude in the mixed up with KP was really annoying. Decisive Moments: After quick three wickets it was really important to keep the pressure on RR batsmen. And for me the moment of the match was when Kallis took the wicket of in form, dangerous Wtason. It was a good low catch from KP.And after the early departure of Yousuf it was all over for RR.It was crucial for RCB to win the match emphatically to improve their run rate.KP provided the much needed impetus to the inning to have a easy chase at the end. Match14: Result:MI won the match by 57 runs With the high net run rate,RCB was pretty much sure to make it to the semis. The game was really of sealing the place at 2nd.But RCB faultered and faultered big time. Pros: Steyn bowled brilliantly. Vinay maintained his line and length. Cons: Proved RCB's lack in depth bowling. Batsmen unable to capitalise on their start. RCB didn't seem to appear for the match. It was only one team in the field. Thanks to RCB's huge loss the net run-rate took a beating but remained just high enough to make them favourites for a semi-final spot.Ambati Rayudu has been the best of the ICL returnees this seasonadded to his growing reputation with another power-hitting cameo.Later on,Pollard and Duminy joined the party. Eventually RCB did manage to get through to the semis. But really team like RCB should get through to the semis more convincingly, not by mere runrate. They had only themselves to blame for that. But after all qualifying to the top four all that mattered.

PHASE 3 : Gourav Bhattacharjee's review for rc's performance
All the league matches were over. Now it was time to put best foot forward. It was absolutely now or never situation. It was knock out round. Before the commencement of the IPL RCB was one of the favorites to win the title. They were the best team on paper. But as Mr. Sunil Gavaskar often said Cricket is not played on papers its all about how u perform on the field. Through out the qualifying stages it was kind of seesaw journey for RCB so as the fans's emotion. One day they played like champions, the tiger..Other day they became merely cat of opponent. They never gelled as a team. There were some individual heroics but in none of the matches we could find a whole team to contribute to win. Individual Heroics: Robbin Uthappa, one man army. Kumble with the bowl. Kallis had played his part but in many matches he found played for himself only. Vinay with the bowl but not consistent enough. Fiery Spell from speed star Steyn. Thanks to two huge wins against Rajasthan Royals we could qualify for the semi finals. I remebered one of the post match interview of Harsha Bogle at some IPL ground after 4 semi-finalist got finalized where he was referring to his 4 ideal semi-finalists and the winner. What he was saying that on team wise 4 semi-finalist should be Mumbai,Bangalore,Delhi and Chennai and winner should be Mumbai. So, what he was trying to say that Deccan Chargers had played out of their skins to have a place in semis. They had played as an unit and won 5 games in a row.He also had mentioned that RCB was the most underperformed team in IPL. Considering his view points really if RCB could play 20% of what Deccan did we would have won that title this year for sure. Semi-Final: Now coming to the semifinal game against Mighty Mumbai Indians. There was no point guessing that who was the favorite on that match. They match was scheduled to play at Bangaluru. But as we all know for some unavoidable circumstances it was relocated to Mumbai.Which was actually bless in disguise as on that particular day there was heavy rain fall at Bangalore. In pre match interview rahul was asked whether crowd pressure can affect their game or not.he then smartly answered as always that if we play well crowd will also appreciate that. But it wasn't meant to be.RCB continued their trained of gifting the match to the opposition at crucial juncture. Toss wasn't really mattered as Mumbai liked to defend and RCB liked to chase.Eventually MI had won the toss and choose to bat. RCB bowlers did give a great start. One of the rare times when Sachin had failed. And none other that Dale steyn took the price scalp. After that RCB spinners really pegged them back and kept them under. But one could really sense that it was a lull before storm. They were sizing up our bowlers. All that mattered how could they tackle Pollard and inform Tiwary at crease. Key-Moment: Kumble had come to bowl his last over to Tiwary. All the fan were pretty sure that this over would go well for RCB.But it was not to be.Mr. Consistent with the bowl had bowled 2 front foot no-balls to Tiwary. It gave them the much needed momentum to break free.I didn't remember the commentator at that time. What he was referring that it was all pressure.Player like Kumble had succumbed to the pressure. It was really a match changing moment for me. After that Pollard went blizzard again in his usual style. After the last match against MI one could thought that RCB would come with some plans against Pollard. They might be but either it was hard to understand by fans like us or they couldn't able to apply on the field at crunch moment. Requiring 9.5 runs per over from over no 1 RCB would always going to struggle against the best bowling line up in IPL.So was the case. They never were never looking like to overhaul the target against the bowlers like-Zaheer,Harbajhan and best depth bowler in T20 Mallinga.RCB lost their wickets at regular intervals and after the wicket of Uthappa it was all over for RCB. Play-Off against DC: It wasn't only a match for redeem their pride for both the teams.Champions league was in stake. But sadly for the spectators Deccan wasn't appeared for the match mentally.RCB fan might get pleasure from the win but frankly there wasn't really any competition. Both the team looked to test their bench strength. But Deccan had made some foolish changes like they dropped inform T. Suman and dangerous Gibbs from their team.Deccan looked that they were not really out of their loss against chennai at semifinal. For me player of the match was Nayan Doshi, son of great Dilip Doshi. He bowled an excellent spell. If luck would have favored him he could get 3/4 wickets quiet easily.Kumble did bowl well after his awe full performance at semis. One noticeable thing about Kumble is that he seemed to enjoy bowling against left handers now but through out his inter national career he struggled against quality left handers like jaysuriya,Anwar, laraetc and cherished to bowl against right handers. In this IPL and also in previous one he bamboozled quite a few lefties like Hayden,Gilchrist,Raina etc. One more interesting observation I would like to mention in this point. Why do always Indian players fail at big matches? For example, look at IPL semifinals Sachin Tendulkar who plays brilliantly through out the tournament but failed at semifinal and also in final.Another great legendary spinner Anil kumble who really bowled at his best through out the tournament but made some blunder at big match bowling two no-balls.Another one is Mr. Dependable Rahul Dravid who also couldn't perform upto the potential he is capable of. For me our batting never clicked together. Our bowlers did bowl well in quite a few games but they also got the hammering in some matches but that was the nature of T20.Bowlers gets hammered by the batsmen. What we really lacked in our batting department was a good middle-order player who could weather an early storm and build an inning from middle not just by power-hitting but also by quick running between the wicket, rotating the strike. If we look our batting order closely all the batsmen in our team are top order batsmen. They never batted at middle at their respective teams. Rahul-Bats at 3 for each team he plays Virat-Opens for Delhi and Bats at 3 for India Ross-Bats at 3 for NewZealand for quite a long time and still now bats at 4 for them White-Bats at 4 normally but he didn't get a proper chance by RCB Uthappa-Normally opens for Karnataka These 5 were the middle order for RCB but look none of them have enough experience of plying at middle at control the inning. One man that could do really wonder for RCB is Eoin Morgan. He is playing consistently well for England at Middle order. He along with White if had enough opportunities they could have won many matches for us. I think in T20 cricket opening combination with bat and bowl is very crucial. But if there is early hiccups only an efficient Middle order batsmen or a spinner can weather the storm and get the team through to the safe position. Hope to see a much better performance by RCB at Champions League and next year's IPL. Best of luck guys.
