PHASE 2 : Achyut Koushik's review for rc's performance
When England won the previous Ashes, Andrew Strauss famously said,"When we were bad, we were really bad, When we were good, we just managed to be good enough". Well, if Kumble had to make a similar speech, he would have had to say "When we were good, we were outstanding. When we were bad, we could have beaten the Chinese Cricket team in a humdinger". This sums up not just the 2nd phase, but the entire tournament for RCB.

The victories against KXIP(Ok, an exception, a narrow game chasing a big total), KKR(by 7 wickets with 17 balls to spare) and against RR(by 5 wickets with 26 balls to spare) are testimony to the fact that they were very good on their day. on the other hand, the matches they lost were a proof of their lacklustre performance. If they were clueless with both bat and ball against DD, this plight was reserved only for the bowling against DC (first time). If they were stellar with the ball against DC (Second time), they were equally stupid in the second half of their batting. Did you ask what about their performance against MI? My god!One got a feeling that it was almost unfair playing these two teams against each other.

Instead of analyzing each and every match as to who played well and who didnt, I would say it was the consistency factor which failed the team. One international team which comes to my mind which has similar attributes is the Pakistan team. They too can be devastating on their day, but can put School kids to shame on some other day. With a few Indians in the South African RCB outfit, a tag of chokers would be more appropriate than that of inconsistent. Their performance, though, justifies the latter.

Another piece of fact which drives home the point of inconsistency is that just before the match against MI, many "experts" tipped the match to be a "final before the final". Such was the reputation they carried with them. Unfortunately, they couldn't deliver at the crunch moment.

Having said enough of negative stuff, it is time to appreciate the good things. No other team has finished in the top 3 for two consecutive years. No other Indian team will play the Champions League for two consecutive years. No other team owns the stadium which has been voted the best in the country. No other team can boast of an 85000 strong supporters on its online community. No other team deserves to be called the ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE.
