PHASE 2 : 's review for rc's performance
The 2nd phase of the IPL was according to me the most interesting phase as 7 out of the 8 teams(apart from KXIP) were in contention for the title !!

Here is my take on RCB s performance in this leg of the tournament

Match 8: RCB vs KXIP(Mohali) Result- Victory!!

Here comes ROSSY(unfortunately rested as he had just arrived from NZ).Both teams were coming into this game with 2 losses and each looked to benefit from this match.RCB had the upper hand after chasing down 203 in their previous encounter.Being asked to bowl first on a good batting pitch was a real test for the team. The bowling performance was mediocre with KXIP cruising to a total of 181.The opening pair did not put a lot of runs on the board but we had to show people that we could win matches without much help from Kallis!! KP and Kohli put on a good partnership in the middle but things got heated up as RCB needed 48 of the last 4 overs !! But then came UTHAPPA the juggernaut(irresistible crushing force). He made Brett Lee look like a newcomer by blasting him for 25 runs of the 17th over which hauled the match in our favor !! Moral of the Story- 2 or 3 people need to put up their hands up every match to win it comfortably !!

Match 9: RCB vs DDD (Kotla) Result- Loss!!

On the Kotla picth winning the toss is of paramount importance.
My feeling was that the match was lost at the toss. Taylor was brought in place of Steyn and K P Apanna played his first match of the IPL on a flat and turning Kotla surface which was a pretty good decision by Kumble.Sadly our medium pacers went for a lot of runs. But we had a solid lineup waiting to be unleashed. But sadly we were tied by a leash by the Delhi bowlers. Quick initial wickets forced Kallis and Pietersen to consolidate but the run rate went down drastically between the 6th and the 10th over.By then it was all too late as the wicket seemed to be holding up and DD won majestically.Moral of the story -Do not let the run rate go out of control even though you have the players to turn it upside down!!

Match 10: RCB vs DC (Chinnaswamy) Result- Loss!!

Time for some repair work!! The thing we realized too late was that if a wicket fell early the RIGHT man for the job was MR RIGHT..THE WALL..RAHUL DRAVID...sadly Manish Pandey got out early and Dravid was sent at No 3.All Dravid fans were eager to see him play and none were disappointed. His knock of 26 was crucial as it led to a big partnership b/w Kallis and Dravid.A last min fire by Kohli and 2 sixes of the last ball of the innings gave RCB the momentum they required. The bowlers started of well and restricted the Chargers for 95/3 in 11.4 overs but all was not well for RCB.Suman and Symonds put on one of the best partnerships this IPL..helped thoroughly by some very very poor bowling to reach 186 with 4 balls to spare.Moral of the story-Partnerships can win you matches but you need some decent bowling to support you!!

Match 11: RCB vs KKR (Chinnaswamy) Result- Victory!!

It was time for revenge for the RCBians.KKR were coming from a good win vs Delhi.JUMBO won the toss and decided to put the visitors in on a fast and pacy Bangalore wicket.Steyn and Vinay Kumar bowled superbly and the latter went on to take 3 wickets.A miserly spell from the captain restricted the lackluster KKR to 160.Kallis went early and S Sriram(making his debut)put on a partnership with THE WALL.My facebook status after the match read "Who the hell said Dravid is not fit to play t20??". Dravid went on to score 52 of 35 balls which included 2 consecutive sixers!!The stage was set for UTHAPPA the HODIAPPA to finish it off..He knocked to KKR ball out of the park to bring his 50 up in 22 balls!!We won the match with 2.5 overs to spare!! Moral of the story- OLD (DRAVID) IS GOLD.

Match 12: RCB vs DC (Nagpur) Result- Loss!!

After handing over the match to their opponents last time around it was time to get even stevens.Kumble elected to bowl on a very good Nagpur wicket and the decision paid off.Fast and fiery Dale Steyn ripped through the top order.Rohit Sharma and Monish Sharma put on a steady partnership and DC sailed to a very modest 151.Bangalore started off very well despite Pandey getting out for a duck.Dravid put on a solid partnership. At the end of 12 overs RCB required 70 of 48 balls with 8 wickets in hand. But wickets seemed to tumble all of a sudden and we lost 4 main batsman. We needed 39 of 18 with 4 wickets in hand but we had UTHAPPA !!He hit 21 runs of the 17th over to bring things under control. But then the blow came from a slow leg cutter from Harmeet Singh which left Bangalore wincing till the end.Moral of the Story-Do NOT go for hasty shots initially..play yourself in before you do anything.

Match 13: RCB vs RR (Jaipur) Result- VICTORY!!

One win in the next two matches would assure RCB a position in the semi final birth as our Net run rate was very good.Jaipur was a fortress for the Royals but RCB are good at surprising people(last ipl we won consecutive matches to seal a birth in the semis). The bowlers put up a splendid performance and restricted RR to a meager 130 on their home turf. Our batting was terrific even though Kallis went early.Pietersen scored a mammoth 62 ball 29 and was unfortunately run out by the young Virat Kohli.Pietersen was furious as he was going strong and looked to finish the match early.A brisk 26 by UTHAPPA helped Bangalore to reach their target with nearly five overs to spare.
Moral of the Story-Players need to learn that there is no place for selfishness in cricket and sacrificing their wicket can help the team.(Pietersen had his arms around a subdued Kohli after the match but all was well)

Match 14: RCB vs MI (Chinnaswamy) Result- LOSS!!

I was at the stadium for this match!!Both teams were assured of a semi final birth but this match would decide our position on the table.Bangalore chose to bowl on one of the best surfaces of this IPL.Mumbai seemed sluggish scoring 29 in the first 5 overs and losing Tendulkar early.Dravid dropped Mclaren but it seemed to help as he was scoring at a slow rate.Rayudu at the other end was playing a blistering innings and he too was dropped by Vinay Kumar at the boundary..a tough catch no less..Rayudu s departure brought in Pollard who hit 3 consecutive sixers of Pankhaj Singh. There was a drastic momentum change and MI seemed to be unstoppable.Duminy came in and hit 42 of 19 balls. The bowlers were just mere spectators!!
Our batting was put under lot of pressure and some tight bowling dint help the cause!! RCB crumbled to 78 for 5 after 12 overs..none of the top order batsman clicked.Kohli hung in there to prevent the net run rate from going down and spoiling our chance to reach the semis.RCB had a brutal wake up call before the semis.Moral of the Story -You need to learn from your mistakes!! Bowling and Batting should support and complement each other!!

To conclude, the 2nd phase was where we started losing our initial momentum.A couple of matches were close but we were CONSISTENTLY INCONSISTENT and we paid the price in the semis. According to me RCB has the best combination of players in the IPL and I was hoping we would go ahead and win the title.Sadly that was not the case as a lot of our players were out of form or seemed to run out of steam by the time we reached the semis.

Looking ahead to the Champions League now...RCB for LIFE!!

Looking forward to your comments...cheers :D
hope its a mumbai indians and rcb final next season atleast :P
