Performance match-wise:
Match 1: RCB vs KKR
Finally RCB begin the tournament. Everybody expects the team to perform exceptionally well as they are one of the pre tournament favourites.
Positives:
*Kallis finds some form at the beginning of the tournament.
*Praveen Kumar and Anil Kumble bowl their heart out to emerge with an economy rate of 4.00 and 4.75 respectively, which is really fabulous for t20's.
* Dale Steyn bowls at mindblowing speeds, though he goes for runs
Negatives:
*Failure of wonderkid Manish Pandey at the top of the order.
*Poor team selection.
*Not able to get going in the powerplays.
Result: RCB lose thus losing some self-confidence.
Match 2: RCB vs KXIP
After a loss in the first game, fans expect RCB to come up on top against KXIP.
Positives:
*Kallis continues his fabulous form, missing a century by 11 runs.
*Pandey gets off to a good start and times the ball well but is not able to convert it into a big innings.
*Robin Uthappa is at his best. His change in stance and grip has brought him really positive results. He breathtakingly races to his 51 off just 21 balls.
Negatives:
*Inability to pick wickets at early stages.
*Inability to restrict Punjab within 200.
*The story of the match is 'Dropped Catches'
Result: RCB win bringing themselves a lot of confidence.
Match 3: RCB vs RR
RCB look to continue their winning form against season 1 winners Rajasthan Royals who will stop at nothing to reclaim their lost glory.
Positives:
*Kallis agin fires and so does Pandey.
*All bowlers end up with economy rates of less than 7.
*Great fielding effort by RCB.
Negatives:
*No negatives to take from this game...only positives!!!
Result: RCB score the second biggest victory in terms of balls-to-spare and move to the 2nd spot on the points table.
Match 4: RCB vs MI
RCB run against table toppers Mumbai Indians and have to beat them to replace them at the top of the table.
Positives:
*Kallis remains unbeaten for the 4th consecutive time in the tournament and lays his hands on the orange cap.
*Vinay Kumar picks up 3 wickets in an over including that of Tendulkar's which turns out to be the turning point of the game.
*Kumble makes some questionable decisions but is rewarded in the end just to show everyone why he is the best captain around.
*Dale Steyn bowls with fire in his eyes to claim 3 wickets at speeds exceeding 150 km/h.
Negatives:
*After impressive performances in the first few games, Praveen Kumar goes for many a run.
Result: RCB cruise to a 7 wicket victory with 5 balls to spare to move replace Mumbai at the top of the table and become hot favourites to win the tournament.
Match 5:RCB vs CSK
RCB have to face eventual winners Chennai Super Kings in the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni for the latter.
Positives:
*Robin Uthappa does it again for RCB with a amazing knock of 68 off 38.
*Vinay Kumar continues his good bowling for by picking 4 wickets.
*Not giving up even when the match was tilting the other side.
Negatives:
*You can't call it a negative but Kallis finally is dismissed in the tournament.
*Failure of the much talked about Eoin Morgan.
*Early dismissal of all batsmen leaving Uthappa with much to do.
Result: Rcb defeat CSK by 36 runs to cruise to their 4th consecutive win.
Match 6: RCB vs DD
RCB are not to surprisingly expected to beat DD comfortably.
Positives:
*Future RCB captain Virat Kohli finds some form.
*Vinay Kumar continues with his impressive bowling form.
*Pandey plays a fine innings.
Negatives:
*Once again RCB do not fire during the powerplay leaving a lot to do in the last few overs.
*Kallis struggles to continue his impressive form.
*Too many run outs.
Result: RCB lose their second match of the season by 17 runs.
Match 7: RC vs CSK
After defeating Chennai in their previous encounter, Kumble and his men are expected to repeat it in chennai's own backyard.
positives:
*Kallis finds his form again.
*Pietersen and White, returning from national duty look impressive.
*Kohli plays a matured innings.
Negatives:
*Praveen Kumar once again goes for too many runs.
*Poor captaincy might have cost RCB the match.
*Kallis look very poor with his bowling.
Result: RCB end phase 1 with a loss by 5 wickets.
Overall review:
RCB, coming into the tournament were favourites. They were expected to win each and every match. After a loss in the first match, they cruise to 4 consecutive victories.
Positives:
*Kallis is at his best. Whoever says that Kallis is not fit for t20's will have to look at phase 1 of IPL 3.
*Uthappa is at his breathtaking best with match saving performances in almost every game. With the extra burden of wicket keeping, he doesn't disappoint.
*Vinay Kumar bowls beautifully to take wickets at crucial stages to turn the game around on many an occasion.
*Dale Steyn bowls consistently in the 150-155 km/h range bamboozling the batsmen on many occasions.
Negatives:
*Manish Pandey is timing the ball very well but is not able to convert his starts into big innings.
*Praveen Kumar is not his effective self going for too many runs.
*Poor team selection has done the team in on a few occasions.
*Much talked about Eoin Morgan fails to deliver.
Overall Result: RCB have performed well, but they are not at their best
