Cricket and superstitions go hand in hand. I'd like to think that I don't believe in all that balderdash yet going into our semifinal against Mumbai I didn't feel like my optimistic self. (Little known fact: My username on this site means sunshine and puppies in French) Ever since match 2 which I was lucky to witness live as a member of the Mighty 14, I had brought along a hand-drawn poster of Dravid, Taylor, Merwe, and Kumble. I had managed to snag autographs(not to mention pics and compliments) of 3 out the 4 players mentioned. Everyone except Ross Taylor who had come late. And though Chief Blogger Aneesh and Merwe himself assured I could get an autograph, no biggie, it was not to be. With the semis shifted to Mumbai, my bubble was burst. And I realized with my poster drawing parallels with the unfinished works of da Vinci, how could Taylor ever hope to get out of his slump? Though he did well to dismiss Sachin with a good catch, he ended up in a dreadful mix-up with Dravid forcing the Wall to go back to the dug out. This was the turning point definately. I mean, Dravid did sign my poster and he was doing good. Moral of the story: Next IPL I will draw everybody. And I mean the whole Scooby Doo gang.
Next match we needed to win to beat our bogey team and seal a place in CLT20. Kumble rested Taylor. And what you know? Dravid did better than last time, in good company with KP and the other guy on my poster, Captain Kumble managed a Man-of-the-Match worthy 4 wicket haul. Call me superstitious or feather-brained, but I tell you the proof is in the pudding.
