RCB RCB Royal Challenegers Bangalore have had a fair share of success in the first three seasons of the Indian Premier League and will want to go one better this year. They did not set the stage on fire in the first season but lost their way somewhat finishing low down the ladder. They were called a “Test Team” in a much quoted comment, due to many anchor players in their batting line-up such as Rahul Dravid and Kallis. The “Mischief Gals” also made waves as the Royal Challenegers has a humble beginning. The team’s owner, liquor baron Dr. Vijay Mallya was disappointed and made sure that the team had a changed face for the second season. In South Africa, the Challengers stood upto the challenge reversing their fortunes under the leadership of Anil Kumble. Kumble was quite a natural choice after Kevin Pietersen was engaged and could not make it for a large part of the season. Anil kept the boys rolling and made their way to the last frontier but in vain. The outstanding features of this season were his brilliant leadership and that the team qualified for the Champion’s League.
Virat Kohli will play a huge role in the Challengers dressing room this time in the absence of experienced campaigners such as Dravid and Kumble In the third season, the Challengers took off from where they had finished their second season continuing their run of success. They romped many a team on their way to the semis where they were ousted by Chennai Super Kings, the eventual winners. The emergence of youngsters such as Manish Pandey, Virat Kohli and Robin Uthappa was a great plus for the side. Anil Kumble’s leadership was lauded once again. The Challengers were consistent in their performance in the way that they made it to both the editions of the Champions League and tasting some success in the second edition. They will be hoping for some silverware from now on. The fourth season awaits them and their team looks set to roll.
Anil Kumble will be playing the mentor's role this time The squad has very few former players with the exception of Virat Kohli who is likely to be the skipper. Dravid, the icon player, is off to Rajasthan. Meanwhile Anil Kumble has taken up the role of the mentor. Their are many new additions to the squad. The show-stopper of last season, Saurabh Tiwary finds himself at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. He was bought at the auction ahead of the former owners Mumbai Indians. Bangalore have also bought a couple of players who formerly played for DElhi Daredevils. Dirk Nannes, AB DeVilliers and TM Dilshan have all come to Bangalore from the FerozShah Kotla. The bowling department has Zaheer Khan and Abhimanyu Mithun as well giving the side a good mix of Indian and overseas players. The team is yet to be powered with uncapped Indian players who will make a lot of difference but rumour has it that Bangalore have already added some to their kitty. However, Manish Pandey has reportedly refused a contract offered to him by the franchise. The team stands thus for the moment. Batsmen – Virat Kohli – Saurabh Tiwary – Cheteshwar Pujara – Mohammad Kaif – Luke Pomersbach – Rilee Rossouw – Jonathan Vandiar All Rounders – Daniel Vettori – Tillakaratne Dilshan Wicket Keepers – AB de Villiers Bowlers – Zaheer Khan – Abhimanyu Mithun – Charl Langeveldt – Johan van der Wath – Dirk Nannes – Nuwan Pradeep
