...it's given me a bigger, more personal reason to cheer for the game. We are all Indian cricket fans, no denying that. But there's also no denying the fact that we always had a soft corner for the guys from our state in the Indian team. Karnataka, and more specifically Bangalore, inevitably comes before India just like the heart knows before the head. It's like the starting point from which your love and feeling expands to reach bigger things. It's like cheering for Indiranagar over Jayanagar, because you live in and love Indiranagar more. There is simply no place like home!
What RCB has done is give a cricketing metaphor to our love for Bangalore. The clubs in the English Premier League, although they have a tremendous global reach, are built on the love of their home fans. They provide the foundation, the heart, soul and voice that is the driving force. It was also a stroke of genius by Mr. Modi to have icon players for each home team. Rahul Dravid, and Kumble for that matter, are loved across the cricket playing globe for their skill, the manner they conduct themselves and for the champions that they are. And with the RCB, they are coming back home! Namma hudugaru!
And, the cherry on the top (literally), is the king of good times! Team Bangalore is not owned by a construction conglomerate, nor by a media baron or a film star. It's owned by the man who is the epitome of pub city! Pubs and Bangalore are as thick as thieves, and to have this mix generously seep into cricket provides a heady mix that no spirit on earth can match!
And, by the way, we also have one hell of a cricket team! players selected, *http://www.cricket.mailliw.com/ Edits
