K P Appanna

A slow left arm orthodox bowler, KP Appanna plays for the Karnataka Ranji team. His impressive performance for Karnataka in the 2011-12 Ranji season saw him stake a claim for and earn a place in the RCB team. Taking 28 wickets in the entire season, Appanna was the joint fourth highest wicket taker in the tournament overall.

A part of the RCB squad in the first three seasons of the IPL, Appanna rarely got a chance to play owing to the presence of heavyweights like Anil Kumble in the team. He impressed in the 7 matches he played, taking 3 wickets. His return to the team provided a much needed bolstering to the spin attack, performing splendidly in the 2012 IPL.

RR had made a good start chasing 189, 56 runs coming in just 7 overs. Appanna then broke through, taking a wicket with his second ball of the game. By the end of his unchanged spell, he had dismissed Ajinkya Rahane who had just slammed a hundred against RCB a few weeks ago, his partner in demolition from that game Owais Shah, promoted pinch-hitter Shreevats Goswami and Rahul Dravid who had been running away with this game. With the figures of 4/19, Appanna had singlehandedly broken the back of Rajasthan’s chase to set up RCB’s payback win.
