204 runs still needed
This is Test cricket at its best. Fluctuating fortunes, tensions running high, wickets tumbling like nine pins, partnerships drafted – all happened in an action packed fourth day of the third Test between India and Sri Lanka.

As Indian spinners ran through the Lankan middle order in the first session, Lanka found unlikely heroes in Samaraweera and Ajantha Mendis who rescued Lanka from a pathetic 125/8 to 243/9. Eventually Lanka ended at 267, leaving India to chase 257 to win the Test and restore parity in the series. But then, the wicket played truant, as Lankan offie Suraj Randiv scalped three as India found them precariously placed at 53/3 at the end of the day, still requiring 204 runs to win.
With Sachin, Laxman, Raina and Dhoni left in the fray as specialist batsmen, it will be a huge fifth day for India. The target is not that high, but given the dwindling condition of the wicket, it may appear a monumental task. However, the heroes of many a battle, these four Indian batsmen would know perfectly well how to handle the turns and bat on this surface. The example set by Samaraweera and Mendis while drafting the 118 run partnership for the ninth wicket can show India the way to 204.
It will be an interesting fifth day surely. Test cricket at its best.
