5000 runs for Dilshan in ODIs
Tilakratne Dilshan and Daniel Vettori started their campaign in somewhat similar fashion with crushing wins over their opponents. Vettori;s New Zealand was more dominating in their victory over Kenya winning with more than 40 overs to spare. New Zealand's Hamish Bennett's 4/16 paved the way as Kenya crashed to 69 all out. Dilshan, on the other hand, had some good batting practice, scoring 50 off 59 deliveries to give Sri Lanka a solid start against Canada, completing 5000 runs in his ODI career in the process. But it was Mahela Jayawardane's powerful century, 100 off 80 deliveries - the best by a Sri Lankan in a World Cup, who stole the limelight in the match along with skipper Kumara Sangakkara who missed the three figure mark by 8 runs. Lanka powered to 332/7 and then restricted Canada to only 122 to script a thumping victory.
