AB de Villiers half century props up SA

AB de Villiers hit 80 to rescue the South Africans in the first innings of their 2 day tour match against Worcestershire at New Road on Friday.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Proteas found themselves in trouble as the openers Jacques Rudolph and Alviro Peterson were both dismissed with the score just 21. de Villiers and JP Duminy then added 53 for the third wicket, AB scoring a lion’s share of 39 runs in the partnership.

On Duminy’s departure, de Villiers added 91 for the fourth wicket with Albie Morkel who hit a quickfire 50. AB was finally dismissed for 80 off 118b with 12 fours. His dismissal triggered a collapse that saw South Africa go from 185/4 to 237 all out.

Worcestershire ended the day on 70/3.
