de Villiers reached this record after he passed 50 in the first innings on Day 1 of the second Test against Australia at St George's Park on Thursday.

AB is the only cricketer who has this record currently. De Villiers went ahead of a record that was previously held by West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards and former India opening partners Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. The South African batsman has passed 50 in every test since December 2012, which includes six hundreds and six fifties. He also went on to record his 19th Test century, fifth against Australia, equaling the record for most centuries by a South African batsman against Australia.

In the meanwhile, AB also reached 7000 runs in his Test career.
