AB nets big honours at CSA awards
AB de Villiers picked up the SA Player’s Player of the Year award and the ODI International Cricketer of the Year award at Cricket South Africa’s yearly awards banquet in Johannesburg on Wednesday night.
AB was nominated in three categories at the CSA awards, popularly known as Cricket’s Oscars in South Africa. His nominations included ODI Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and SA Cricketer of the Year, the last one a title he is yet to win.
His 475 runs in 8 games with 2 centuries and an average of 158.33 made him a sure pick for the ODI Cricketer of the Year. With the exceptional performance having come in his first season as SA’s new LOI captain and after his return from a serious injury that kept him out of action for close to 6 weeks, AB de Villiers was voted for by his peers as the SA Player’s Player of the Year as well.
The big ones – SA Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year - went to Vernon Philander who had a sensational debut season in which he became the second-fastest man to 50 Test wickets in cricket's history and took six five-wicket hauls in seven matches.
