AB to miss New Zealand T20Is
AB de Villiers will not play the 3 T20I games against the visiting New Zealand side in December.
The batman opted to rest himself so he would be better prepared for the Tests which begin in January. His intense workload as the wicketkeeper of the Test side has been under focus due to the repeated flaring up of AB's longstanding back trouble. He is also the South African captain in the limited overs formats of the game but the selectors had named Faf du Plessis as skipper for the T20Is to relieve him of the extra responsibilities.
Speaking of his decision, de Villiers said “It's been an exhausting few months and I feel that I need some extra rest before the Test series. It's for this reason that I have put in the request and I'm grateful to the team management for supporting this decision."
Quinton de Kock was named as his replacement for the T20Is which begin at Durban on December 21st.
