India vs Sri Lanka: Asia Cup Final

Praveen Kumar started it and Ashish Nehra completed the demolition job. Riding on the bowlers India regained their supremacy in Asian cricket clinching the Asia Cup after 15 years, thereby denying Sri Lanka a hattrick of wins.

Royal Challenger Praveen Kumar’s strike in the very first over of the Lankan chase destabilised the host nation to the hilt. Tilakratne Dilshan has been the mainstay of the Lankan batting order. But Praveen Kumar cramped the master hitter with pace and space. The early strike had a huge impact on the Lankan innings as they struggled to recover thereafter. Skipper Sangakkara and Jayawardane were the threats to the Indian plans but Nehra denied any uprising with a double blow in the 14th over returning Jayawardane and Mathews. Sanga succumbed soon after leaving Lanka reeling at 51/5. It was a matter of time thereon for India to lift the cup, inflicting a sweet revenge for their loss in the league match.

Earlier Dinesh Karthik played a sedate knock of 66 to help India pile 268. All the Indian batsmen got off to a start but failed to capitalise on them. Royal Challenger Virat Kohli unnecessarily chased a wide delivery off Malinga to fall to Sangakkara behind the stumps for 28. Dhoni (38) and Rohit Sharma (41) provided some meaty knocks in the middle while Raina (29) and Jadeja (25) could have been more adventurous. India could add only 55 runs in the last 10 overs.
