Buoyant RCB to meet rising Sun Risers
Sun Risers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bangalore 8PM
Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad
The erstwhile Deccan Chargers bowed out of IPL 5 as party poopers, derailing the campaigns of Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore on their way out. Their replacements the Sun Risers Hyderabad began IPL 6 with a victory in a similar mould.
A bowling effort built around Dale Steyn's tight initial burst and the pressure built in the anticipation of his second spell helped the team defend a small total in their opening game of the 2013 season against Pune Warriors India.
Alongside Steyn, Sun Risers also had encouraging performances from Ishant Sharma and Aashish Reddy to go with Amit Mishra’s able legspin in their win against Pune. It helped that a power packed Pune line up was stymied by Uthappa and Pandey’s sluggishness at the top. There will be no such respite from RCB with Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan at the top. The latter especially will want to replicate his recent international success in the IPL after a terrible first game against Mumbai.
Virat Kohli will want to make amends for his own set up dismissal. Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair too will get more chances. Daniel Christian provided crucial support to Chris Gayle with the bat but conceded too many runs while bowling and might lose his spot to fellow Aussie all-rounder Moises Henriques.
Henriques will be a like for like replacement for Christian in the bowling attack which largely redeemed itself. Unadkat was disciplined and finished with a wonderful penultimate over. Vinay Kumar made for early erratic bowling with a last over that did the job.
Sun Risers too had a batting line up that underperformed against Pune but will be more confident after looking at their bowling unit’s prowess. If the track hints at help for the slower bowlers then RCB could go in for Daniel Vettori to replace Christian. In the case of a track like the one seen in Hyderabad’s game against Pune, Murali Kartik could make way for another Indian seamer, probably RP Singh or Zaheer if he’s fit for the game.
RCB’s record at the stadium has not been impressive but this is a new Hyderabad they face on Sunday. They will be ready to write a new chapter.
