With the convincing win on Monday, Royal Challengers Bangalore moves to the second stage of the Airtel Champions League T20 and are all set to meet the exciting Victorian Bushrangers from Australia on October 15 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Team RCB made certain of qualifying for the Super Eights league stage when they beat the Otago Volts from New Zealand by 80 runs in Bangalore on Monday. By virtue of their top seeding, RCB qualified as the top team from Group C, even though they were the group runners with 2 points, behind the group leaders Cape Cobras (4 points).

By virtue of their top seeding, RCB qualified as the top team from Group C, even though they were the group runners with 2 points, behind the group leaders Cape Cobras (4 points).
Needs an explanation? So here it goes:
According to the format of the tournament, two teams from each of the four preliminary groups go through to the next stage. Although the Cobras were guaranteed top place in Group C, they were allocated the seeding C2. So even though Cobras topped the group by winning both their matches and getting 4 points, they remain C2 because of their seeding. The Challengers are seeded C1 and interestingly, whichever team won on Monday would have taken this seeding through to join the Cape Cobras and the two qualifiers from Group D in League B (refer CL T20 Schedule)
C1 – the top seeded team qualified from Group C will play the second seeded team from Group D or D2 in Bangalore on October 15. Group D consists of the top seeded team Delhi Daredevils, second seeded Victoria Bushrangers and Wayamba Eleven from SriLanka. Going by the current form, it seems very much unlikely that the Bushrangers will be outclassed by the Wayamba. Reason: To go into the next stage, Wayamba Eleven needs to win big against the Bushrangers to not only come to even points with their opponents but also offset the (+1.100) Net Run Rate (NRR) enjoyed by the Bushrangers. The Daredevils, also at 2 points are sitting pretty at (+1.839) NRR.
In the League B, there are more twists. Teams only take through match points earned against the other team in their group that has qualified. That means Team RCB qualified with 0 points since it lost to the Cobras in the group C league match. Essentially, RCB have to win both their matches against the Group D qualifiers in order to qualify for the semi-finals.
So, let’s get charged up to meet the Bushrangers on Thursday at the Chinnaswamy.
