CAB ropes in Murali to train Bengal youngsters
Cricket Association of Bengal has roped in former Pakistani fast bowler Waqar Younis and retired Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan for a 30-day development programme beginning March 15 for a three-year contract.
Initiated by former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, the duo will be coaching 200 players to be chosen from clubs affiliated to CAB and will be aiming to create potential candidates for the senior team.
"They will be picked from a screening camp. The first phase from March 15 will consist of 200 players," Ganguly, who is also the coaching committee chairman of the CAB, added.
A total of 94 clubs will nominate a fast bowler and a spinner each, accounting to 188 players in all. The remaining 12 will be Under-19 cricketers from second divison clubs. Ranadeb Bose will join Younis and Murali as an assistant coach in the pace category. CAB is yet to name a spin bowling deputy coach.
Ganguly, on the other hand, will be in charge of the batting department.
