Challengers face-off in WC final

Challengers face-off in WC final

Michael Hussey’s stunning innings left the whole of Pakistan rubbing their eyes in disbelief. Perhaps the second semi-finals of the T20 World Cup would go down in the history as one of the best chase in T20 cricket. Facing a huge challenge of 191 set by a highly improved Pakistan, Australia, down and almost out till the 10th over, transformed into a different side from the next over.

And it was a Royal Challenger that effected the change for Australia. Cameron White began the counter-attack from the 11th over to make the Australians believe – yes you can! White, one of the most feared T20 specialists, swept, pulled, drove the Pak bowling attack till the 17th over with controlled aggression. His 31 ball 43 laced with five 6s provided a platform and a sense of hope to the senior Hussey that the game was still not lost till the last ball was bowled. Hussey’s 24-ball blitzkrieg of 60 finally sealed the final spot for Australia, but White made the team RC fan’s proud by his innings which build the tempo.

There was also another Challenger who has been silently playing an important role in Australia’s journey so far in the WC – Steven Smith, who claimed the important wicket of Salman Butt in the semi-finals.

These two Challengers from Australia will now be facing a tough challenge from another two challengers from England – Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan. Pietersen has been in great form in the first semi-final in England’s annihilation of the Sri Lankans. His 26-ball 42 was instrumental in the English triumph. Morgan, on the other hand has been one of the key elements in England’s success in this World Cup.

So, here we are. The four Royal Challengers meet face to face in Sunday’s final. Two of them will get in hand the coveted World Cup.
