Chris Gayle blows away Afghanistan
Chris Gayle hit an unbeaten 68* in West Indies's 8 wicket win over Afghanistan in their World Twenty20 warm up game at the P Sara Oval in Colombo on Monday.
Afghanistan were troubled by pacers Fidel Edwards and Ravi Rampaul after they won the toss and chose to bat first. Middle order batsman Asghar Stanikzai helped them post 122/7 with his 53 (50b, 4x5, 6x2). A large part of the runs came in a 61 run partnership for the 4th wicket between Stanikzai and Mohammad Nabi (11).
Gayle was the centre stage of the WI chase, adding a quick 29 with Dwayne Smith (13) for the first wicket and dominating a 59 run stand with Johnson Charles (12) for the second wicket. An unbeaten third wicket partnership with Marlon Samuels (15) took WI to 125/2 in just 15.5 overs to overhaul the target set by Afghanistan. Gayle reached his 50 off just 36 balls and went on to bring up the winning runs with a four, finishing unbeaten on 65* (48b, 4x5, 6x4).
