Chris Gayle to end cricket break
Chris Gayle will return to playing cricket post his self imposed break by participating in the Jamaica squad for the West Indies Cricket Board Regional 4Day tournament.
The burly Jamaican played a hectic season for the West Indies after his return to the national team in last year’s series against New Zealand in June. He was crucial in WI’s 2012 ICC World Twenty20 triumph but suffered a prolonged slump on the tours of Bangladesh and Australia. Gayle also fitted in stints in the 2012-13 Big Bash League and 2013 Bangladesh Premier League, slamming a ton in the latter to hopefully signal a return to form.
Subsequently he requested to be rested for the home ODIs and T20Is against Zimbabwe. Gayle said “I felt that I had been playing a lot of cricket and I was getting mentally drained and that is not good, your cricket will fall apart if you’re mentally drained, and I felt the need to take a break. I asked them (WICB) for the break and, thankfully, it was granted.”
West Indies play the first Test against Zimbabwe on March 12th, Gayle is expected to play for Jamaica in their match which begins on March 7th.
