Ray Jennings, coach of Club Royal Challengers is gunning for the team to pick up form to live up to the reputation of last years finalists in the coming IPL 2010. The mercurial coach also said that the biggest gain from the Indian players in Club RC contingent has been Virat Kohli who has the capability of taking over as the captain of the side in the future. The report published in Times of India also talks about the return of Kevin Pietersen to the side and the new recruits like Eoin Morgan, Steven Smith and S. Sriram.

Sriram.

Ray, who kickstarted the Club RC camp here on Monday, noted that performance will be the key to choosing players in the team. With Vinay Kumar, Abhimanyu Mithun, Manish Pandey in top form, Ray was obviously pleased with the proceedings. On Virat, Ray said, “Kohli has come up and is there in the Indian set up. He is very much a future captain and I believe he can lead India in another two to three years. He is maturing and is not doing the wrong things. He is a good option for us to take over from Kumble but it depends on how long Kumble continues to play,” the report said.

The side is eagerly waiting for the return of KP. “Though he may not be the captain this time around, KP still has a lot to contribute to the team’s cause. KP loves to dominate and if he does that in the 6-14 overs period it would be good for us. He is an inspiration as a dominating presence on the field and the way he bats,” Ray said in the report. Eoin Morgan, Pietersen’s England teammate has also been in prime form. Jennings felt that Morgan will be the “surprise element.” Ray said, “Eoin is new to IPL and the world of cricket. So he could well be the surprise element and he is a very different player,” according to the report.

Around 10 Club RC players worked out at the nets on the first day of the camp, with skipper Anil Kumble leading the pack.

Club RC Squad: Jacques Kallis, Manish Pandey, Srivats Goswami, Vinay Kumar, Bhuvanesh Kumar, K P Appanna, Eoin Morgan, Akhil Balachandra, A Mithun, Steven Smith, Virat Kohli, Praveen Kumar, Robin Uthappa, Mark Boucher, Dale Steyn, Dillon Du Preez, Cameron White, Ross Taylor, Kevin Pietersen, Roelof Van Der Merwe, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, S Sriram
