de Villiers wins South African Cricketer of the Year award
Just days after fellow RCB teammates Virat Kohli and Vijay Zol won top honours at the CEAT cricket awards, RCB stalwart AB de Villiers was adjudged the South African Cricketer of the Year last night. De Villiers pipped new South African Test captain Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn, JP Duminy and Quinton de Kock for the award.
Mr 360 did one better and took home the Test Cricketer of the Year award as well. This was de Villiers’ first award in this category. His Test total of 804 runs at an average of 67.00 for South Africa stood out from the rest last season. AB narrowly lost out on the top One Day International honour to the young de Kock, despite scoring 789 runs at an average of 43.83 and a phenomenal strike-rate of 99.24.
Let’s hope de Villiers manages to continue his sparkling form for a long, long time to come!
