Dilshan delivers win in warm up
Tillakaratne Dilshan struck a quick unbeaten fifty in Sri Lanka’s 9 wicket win against West Indies in a World Twenty20 warm up game at Colombo on Thursday.
West Indies played a below strength team, resting Chris Gayle and Darren Sammy with Dwayne Bravo leading them.
Nuwan Kulasekara justified Sri Lanka’s decision to field first with the wickets of openers Dwayne Smith and Lendl Simmons within the first four overs. Regular strikes from the other bowlers and fielders meant WI managed to post only 132/6 in their 20 overs.
Sri Lanka received a great start from their two openers named Dilshan – Tillakaratne and Munaweera added 32 before the latter was dismissed by Rampaul in the 5th over. Dilshan and Jayawardene then combined for an unbeaten 103 run partnership for the 2nd wicket.
The duo played comfortably; the small target meant they were never in a rush. Both batsmen opened up and began trying shots as they settled in. Jayawardene (57*, 35b, 4x6, 6x2) was spectacular in his assault and reached his 50 off just 31b.
Tillakaratne Dilshan then hurried SL towards the target and brought up his half century off 38b, ending unbeaten on 50 (38b, 4x5, 6x1).
Sri Lanka overhauled the West Indies target with ease, posting 135/1 in just 15.4 overs to win the game by 9 wickets. Sri Lanka play India in their next warm up at the P Sara Oval in Colombo on September 15th.
