Dilshan triumphs over Vettori, Lanka in WC finals
Eventually it was Dilshan who triumphed over Vettori.
In a few days the two will be playing as colleagues for Royal Challengers in the IPL, but on this day it was fierce competitive cricket that separated the two champion cricketers. Dilshan carried on with his form with the bat (and the ball) to take Sri Lanka to the finals of the World Cup.

But for Vettori it was disappointment again. New Zealand has entered the semifinals of the World Cup for the 6th time in 2011, but never got themselves through to the finals. Today was also no exception. But there was no dearth of the spirited Kiwi fight back that this side is known for.
Defending a 217 target is never an easy job, especially when you have a strong line up like the Lankans. Having strummed up a 231 run partnership with Upul Tharanga to knock out England in the quarters, Dilshan was at his supreme best. He continued from where he left against England, only to be stopped at his personal score of 73. But by that time, Sri Lanka had reached 160 with Sangakkara going strong at the other end.
Vettori, however, had his cards up his sleeve and latched on to the opportunity provided by the fall of Dilshan. Some intelligent bowling changes backed up by strong fielding Vettori turned the tables on Sri Lanka to 169/4 and then to 185/5. The fighting spirit of the Kiwis was threatening to take the match away from Lanka’s grasp, but then Samaraweera held his nerves and his wicket to guide the team through to safer pastures, i.e. 220/5 and to the Finals.
Lanka now waits the winners of the India – Pakistan semi-final.
