Extremely happy with the proceedings: Dr Mallya
Hectic actions, stormy sessions, deep thinking and intelligent strategies - that's what is required to build a strong team in the IPL. Its not about looking at the players' statistics, not about only looking at their pedigrees and the names they carry. Nor is it only about their individual capabilities. Its perhaps the combination of all three added to the scheme of things required to long the most in this tournament and also for the Champions League T20.
Building a team from scratch, after having accomplished so much during the last 3 seasons, calls for a lot of guts and emotions to shed. Its something similar to rebuild your house, which you have built over the years, with a view towards accomplishing more in the future. That was the most important aspect looked into while building the team. Mix with it a bit of luck also. In the words of Dr Vijay Mallya, who was visibly happy the way Royal Challengers team has shaped up, "We are happy the way things went in the auctions," he said, as the auction took a lunch break on the second day.

Strategically, retaining Virat Kohli, a captain material for the future and one of the most host property in Indian cricket right now, Team RC progressed towards building a team which had young blood. The importance of fielding in T20 is at par with batting and bowling, which became the mantra for Team RC while selecting and buying the players at the auction. Dr Mallya said, "Our team has perhaps the youngest of the lot in IPL and that was one of the important criterion in selecting the players this time."
In AB de Villiers, Team RC not only got an explosive batsman, but a brilliant fielder as well and also can chip in with his wicket-keeping skills. Ditto for Tilakratne Dilshan, a brilliant cricketer, who just cannot be ignored in any form of cricket, be bowling, fielding, wicket-keeping and oh!, before we forget, his blistering batting skills. If the opponents didn't have enough, then here comes Saurabh Tiwary, the latest limited overs batting hero to emerge from Jharkhand, and who is already a star in the previous editions of IPL and currently going up the ladder in the Indian team. The anchormen in the team will be on the shoulders of Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara, the highly acclaimed star of the Indian team who knows how to bat in different conditions and settings.
Zaheer Khan and Dirk Nannes know a thing or two about bowling in all kinds of situations and in all formats of the game. Nannes is a hugely successful T20 bowler, while Zaks has emerged as one of the frontline bowlers in the world. With the addition of Charles Langeveldt, Team RC strengthens its middle over bowling strategy while Abhimanyu Mithun will chip in with his cunning speed and immaculate lengths. The wily Daniel Vettori then comes with his curving left-armers which more often than not have foxed the opponent batsmen.
As the auction went into the lunch on the second day, Dr Mallya came out and said, "We have had the core of the team formed and also the back-ups." Mind you, at the auction, one gets to buy the Capped players only, while a whole bunch of uncapped players are available to be picked up and who are not part of the auction, e.g. Manish Pandey, Stuart Binny.
Dr Mallya, however, felt sorry that he could not buy back Vinay Kumar, as he lost him to Team Kochi in a hotly contested bidding. "Vinay was an integral part of our team," he said. "But overall, we are overtly pleased with the team building process," he said, adding having Anil Kumble in the helm of affairs as the mentor of the team, RC is looking forward to more accomplishments than what achieved in the last 3 years.

1 Dilshan, 2 Virat, 3 de Villiers, 4 Pujara/Kaif, 5 Tiwari, 6 Johan/Langeveldt/Pommersbach/ Vettori/Vandiar,Rilee 07 & 08 ????? 09 Zaheer, 10 Mithun, 11 Nannes/Pradeep
Considering only 4 foreign players are allowed, hard hitting middle order is completely missing. Uncapped players can be fillers but never be backbone of the team.
but the team we have is v.good with players like zak,de viliers, dilshan, virat, tiwary and vettori... they are well known guys for the t20 format... and with manish pandey coming in the team will be great...
I AM FOR RCB... :-)
but he had a v.high base price itself..!!!
