Gayle joins practice

Come Wednesday and the Team Royal Challengers’ players wrapped up breakfast before the closing time of 10:30 am. An early practice session, this one not under lights was scheduled for about 3:00 pm. This was the first for Chris Gayle. His huge gaunt seemed to add a new dimension to the game.

Chris changed nets when given the option by coach Ray and continued to send the ball outside the stadium! Saurabh Tiwary joked with rookie Abrar Kazi as the latter was hit off consecutive balls. He fetched the latter three extra balls and gave them to Abrar as if to indicate that the previous balls were never going to come back!
Ray Jennings noticed Arun Karthik padding up and told Mithun if he padded up first, he could bat before him. It was worth seeing the speed at which these two RCBians tried to outdo each other. A padding up contest was on!
Well, deadly serious stuff was happening amidst all this. Nuwan Pradeep sent down his rippers. Asad Pathan had a batting session and rolled his arm over.
Wicket keeper CM Gautham and Mayank Agrawal formed a duo that alternated between giving and taking catches to the other. Mayank absent mindedly hit one a little too fast. Coolly Gautham held the catch with hardly a hint of surprise. Mayank stared aghast and apologetic. It was funny that the one who should have been surprised played it down whereas his counterpart remained gaping!
At the gym, the instructor told us that Chris Gayle had visited there earlier. Inspite of an extended batting session just prior to this! Well, we think something big is in the air. Kolkata it will be, where our valiant knights meet the Shah Rukh Khan owned franchise. Perhaps RCB has an edge if one goes by overall performance in the previous IPLs.
