Gayle scores 109 against Sri Lanka
The first match of the tri-nation series between West Indies and Sri Lanka in Kingston ended with West Indies winning comfortably.
Sri Lanka started their game on a good note and were 62 for the loss of no wickets in the 14th over. But the West Indies bowling attack showed their prowess soon after. Upul Tharanga was dismissed by Dwayne Bravo who went on to dismiss Mendis as well. The Sri Lankan batting order tumbled in quick succession with Narine picking up 4 wickets, Ravi Rampaul 2 and Samules 1. Ravi Rampaul took the wickets of Thirimanne, Herath and Kulasekara. Jayawardene added 52 to the scoreboard and Mathews remained unbeaten at 55. However, the total that Sri Lanka could put together was 208 and West Indies was up for the challenge.
West Indies reached the target of 209 in 37.5 overs. Chris Gayle opened the batting and fired away 109 runs of 100 balls. His total included 9 fours and 7 sixes. The rest 100 were added by Dwayne Bravo, Johnson Charles, Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo. In the end it was a smooth victory for West Indies in the opening match.
