Gayle show takes WI to 2-0 lead
Chris Gayle blasted an unbeaten fifty and a hundred in the 1st and 2nd ODIs respectively to hand West Indies a 2-0 lead in the 5 ODI series against New Zealand.

Andre Russell’s 4/45 set up the first game for WI as NZ were bowled out for just 19 in their 50 overs. Set a target of 136 in 33 overs after a long interruption by rain, WI coasted to the target in just 24.2 overs. In front of local supporters at his homeground of Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, Chris Gayle hit 63* (57b 4x5, 6x5) while Dwayne Smith made 65* (77b, 4x6,6x3) in an unbeaten 130 run stand for the second wicket off just 128 balls to give West Indies a thumping 9 wicket in the series opener.
Gayle was even more bashful in the 2nd ODI at the same venue, this time slamming a ton. Put in to bat first, Gayle brought up his 50 off 42b in a rapid 88 run 2nd wicket partnership with Dwayne Smith in which the latter just contributed 24 runs. A 129 run partnership with Marlon Samuels for the third wicket off just 116 deliveries followed as Gayle slammed his 20th ODI hundred off 88 deliveries.
Gayle ended on 125 (107b, 4x8, 6x9) while Samuels finished on 101* (103b, 4x7, 6x1) as West Indies posted a huge total of 315/5 in their 50 overs.
Runs from opener Martin Guptill (51), stand-in skipper Kane Williamson (58) and wicketkeeper Bradley-John Watling (72*) did not prove enough as NZ were bowled out for 260 in 47 overs. Samuels also picked up 2/46 in WI’s 55 run win to take home the Man of the Match award, WI taking a rare 2-0 lead in the ODI series.
