Gayle’s Barisal Burners remain unbeaten in BPL
Royal Challengers Bangalore allrounder Chris Gayle’s team Barisal Burners enjoyed their good run in the Bangladesh Premier League, beating Duronto Rajshahi by 22 runs in their second match at Mirpur.
Chris Gayle set the tone for the match with his opening partnership with Pakistani batsman Ahmed Shehzad after the Burners won the toss and chose to bat first. Gayle blasted 39 off just 23 balls with four fours and two sixes before he was dismissed, caught behind off his West Indies compatriot Marlon Samuels.
Gayle and Shehzad had already added 82 for the first wicket off 8.1 overs by then. Shehzad carried on for his 50 while Brad Hodge provided a neat finish as the Burners posted 180/2 in their 20 overs.
Aussie pacer Shane Harwood, Pakistani pacer Yasir Arafat and Bangladeshi slow left armer Nazmul Islam wrecked the Rajshahi line up, picking up 2 wickets each. Nazmul was hard to keep out of the game, affecting the crucial run out of Mushfiqur Rahim and taking two catches to compliment the two wickets he took. Only opener Mizanur Rehman made a solid contribution, hitting 65 off 52 balls while the next best, Pakistani allrounder Abdul Razzaq could only muster 27 runs.
Chris Gayle finished with one wicket taken in the last over of the match, bowling Syed Rasel as the Rajshahi ended on 158/9, handing the Burners a 22 run win.
