Goal is to win the IPL: Jennings

Turnaround and accountability are a few things that Jennings is known for. His appointment as the coach two seasons back saw the biggest turnaround of a team in the short IPL history. When Jennings took over reigns, Team RC catapulted to runners up of IPL 2 and continued its good form to finish third in IPL 3. Both the seasons, Team RC qualified for the Champions League T20. This year too, a new look team beckons the magic of Jennings, and he is forthcoming with it. “Our goal is to win the IPL,” Jennings says with conviction.

Ray Jennings is charged up for the coming season of IPL. Wasting no time to hit the practice grounds once reaching Bangalore, the no-nonsense coach of Team Royal Challengers is now busy strategising for the coming season. The same way a new look Team RC was rejuvenated and guided to two successful IPL and Champions League campaigns under Jennings.

The current Team RC is a totally new look side which is making Jennings more exciting about the potential and the possibilities. “We have the new flavour. That’s our USP this season. Though we are all professionals, the human touch within the team that makes a team unique. When you have players like AB de Villiers, Nannes, Vettori, Dilshan, Virat there is so much respect within the team for each other. They know how to respect others so they receive more from the other members.”

He is not overtly concerned at the IPL rules which makes team retain the domestic players but surely goes one step ahead to state that any team would like to field the best players in the team. “The IPL bosses should find a way so that teams don’t lose out on local talent.”

Jennings heaped praise on Virat Kohli, the rising star of Indian cricket and the lonely player to be retained by Team RC before the auctions. “Kohli will be the number one player in India, batting wise, after five years,” Jennings predicted. He further added,“He will also lead India one day. He is still young at the international level and it is better to wait for a few years before we make him the captain.”

Jennings is excited to work with team's chief mentor Anil Kumble. “The boss (Vijay Mallya) is a big-time player. He knows what decisions to make. He knows Kumble and my working relationship has been successful. He knows we have put the Team on the map and that’s why Kumble is now the Chief Mentor of the team,”said Jennings.
