India go down to Pakistan in warm up
Pakistan chased down a huge target of 186 to beat India by 5 wickets in their World Twenty20 warm up game at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday.
Batting first, India posted a huge total of 185/3 thanks to major contributions from Virat Kohli (75*, 47b, 4x7, 6x2) and Rohit Sharma (56, 40b, 4x6, 6x2). The two added 125 runs for the 3rd wicket in 77 deliveries after Gautam Gambhir (10) and Virender Sehwag (26) fell in the 5th and 6th over respectively.
Ashwin's strike and a run out in the 4th over reduced Pakistan to 33/2 before Mohammad Hafeez (38) and Kamran Akmal added 51 for the 3rd wicket in just 34 overs. Ashwin (4/23) struck twice in the 10th over, first breaking the partnership by sending back Hafeez and then getting Shahid Afridi for a duck. He returned in the 12th over to dismiss Umar Akmal as Pakistan slid from 84/2 to 91/5. He received no support from the other end though with every other bowler going at an economy rate above 10.
Kamran Akmal's 92* (50b, 4x5, 6x6) and Shoaib Malik's 37* (18b, 4x2, 6x2) saw Pakistan add an unbeaten 95 run stand for the 6th wicket in just 46 balls at a run rate of 12.39. Pakistan overhauled the target in just 19.1 overs, posting 186/5.
