While new recruits AB de Villiers came up with a superlative batting performance scoring 76 runs for the Proteas, Zaheer Khan, India's top bowler and Virat Kohli, the only player to be retained by Team RC were resolute for India but for a losing cause.
AB teamed up with JP Duminy to notch up a 131 run partnership for South Africa to provide them a solid platform to post a challenging total of 289 batting first. AB's aggressive 76 was accumulated in 69 deliveries with 7 hits to the fence and one over it. Zaheer, who rattled the South African openers in his first spell, finished with impressive figures of 2/44 though Rohit Sharma was the most successful amongst Indians with his brand of spin bowling with figures of 2/36. However, Sharma failed in his primary role in the team as a batsman scoring only 11, as was Sachin Tendulkar (2), Yuvaraj Singh (2) and Murli Vijay (1).
Kohli, however was not a spoilsport for India. He played a responsible knock scoring 54, but by the time he left, India were already down at 128/6, eventually folding up at 154.
