India plays safe as Kallis corners all the glories

It was in the end a rather tame affair. Faced with a challenge of 340 runs to win in 90 overs, India decided to play safe and settle for a draw. 166/3 in a full day's play perhaps would look like a Lilliput's effort given the Gulliver the Indian batting line-up is, but the fact that the fifth day's pitch and that Steyn-Morkel combination can instill huge damage to the Number One Test team's ego forced Team India to go slow and keep the wickets rather than going after the runs.

1-1, the final result of the 3-test match series will be written in the record books, but there were more stories, history written than just what meets the eye. One of that, the foremost perhaps was the story of Jacques Kallis. His centuries in both the innings virtually saved South Africa from losing the series, as the rest of the Proteas batsmen succumbed to the Indian bowlers. Kallis the King emerged from the narrow corridor to build a solid castle for South Africa at Newlands through which the Indians couldnt breakthrough. Now wonder he was chosen the Man of the Match and also the Man of the Series. Kallis later told at the presentation ceremony, "Given the situation of the game, the second-innings hundred is up there with the best. I am probably playing as best I have ever played. I have worked hard in the last 3-4 years and hopefully I can keep scoring for more years." We surely are looking forward to that.

It was also heartening to see that India living upto its recently acquired reputation of world beaters on foreign soil, The fearless attitude of Team India was evident in the series, and made it as one of the most memorable Test series of recent times. If South Africa outplayed India in the first, the reverse happened in the second. And to make it more intense, there were hardly any spot where the two teams could be separated in terms of weakness in the third Test. The wicket played the perfect platform to launch such high class acts by both the teams, living upto their reputation of the top two teams in the world.

Now the battle shifts to the limited versions of the game. Surely the intensity will again be seen in the coming series.
