India record historic Test win at Lord's to go one-up!
Here's the match report of the second Investec Test match between India and England.
Ishant Sharma proved all his critics wrong to fashion a 95-run victory for India against the hosts in the second Investec Test match at Lord’s. Although he was reluctant at first, India captain MS Dhoni convinced Ishant to test England’s batsmen with short-pitched bowling and boy did it work wonders! The 6 feet 4 inch bowler’s career best figures of 7/74 enabled India to record only their second victory at Lord’s in a span of 82 years.
Whenever India win abroad, one generally attributes it to team effort. Similarly in this case, there were quite a few young Indians who stepped up to the mark. Rahane’s 103 and Kumar’s 6/82 in the first innings, Vijay’s gritty 95 and Jadeja and Kumar’s match-saving 99-run partnership contributed heavily to the team’s cause.
Having drawn first blood in the series, India will look to make maximum use of their precious lead and pile on the pressure. There are still 3 more Test matches to go, so England still have a chance to turn things around. But for now the only hashtag we could see trending top on Twitter, in the days leading to the next Test match, is likely to be #SaveCook!
