India shows character to whip Windies by 63 runs

It didn't matter whether they were at full strength or not.

It didn't matter that they had three debutantes - Virat Kohli, Praveen Kumar, and Abhinav Mukund.

When you have the tag of World's Number One team, emerging triumphant at every obstacle with resilience. Just like the way Team India vanquished West Indies by 63 runs in the first test and go one up in the series. The character with which Team India played this match was the most remarkable to watch. Down at 80/6 on the first day, to a whipping win under four days tells a lot of tale for the team.

Critics may say that West Indies would have been a different team had Chris Gayle been included in the Test squad. However, it was a choice made by the West Indian board and not by Team India. For starters MS Dhoni had to play within the limited resources on this tour. Secondly, on a wicket, which provided bounce and was double paced, the bowlers were given perfect conditions on all the days. Under such conditions, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh proved sometimes attack could be the best mode of defence when a 146-run partnership saved India the blushes in the first innings. Then Praveen Kumar (Royal Challengers would remember him as PK) swung the ball like bananas to floor the Windies batsmen. He was ably assisted by Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra and Bhajji.

But it was Rahul Dravid, the master class whose typical back to the wall innings of 112, his 32nd century in 15 years of Test cricket, took India to the doorsteps of victory as India set West Indies 326 to win the Test. On a wicket which was bouncing and turning, it was always supposed to be an improbable chase. But cricket being a glorious game of uncertainty, India could not be assured of a victory till the last wicket has fallen. A somewhat similar drama was unfolding when the West Indian tail put up a spirited performance and took the total to 262 after being down at 181/7 at one time. PK's master swings started the wicket riot on fourth day morning, reducing WI to 226/9 at lunch and victory was thought out to be a mere formality. However the last wicket pair gave India the goosebumps before part-timer Suresh Raina shattered the stumps to stamp India;s victory.

MS Dhoni's 15th Test victory as the Indian skipper couldn't have been accomplished without the craft of Rahul Dravid, the swings of debutante Praveen Kumar. We, at Royal Challengers congratulate Team India on this wonderful victory and also feel proud to have been associated (not long ago) with the two crafty players who made this victory possible. So what Kohli failed with the bat. He has proved his mettle and will surely hit the jackpot in the next Test.
