India U-19s through to finals
India U-19 beat New Zealand U-19 by 7 wickets at the Marrara Oval in Darwin on Wednesday to notch up their fourth consecutive win in the tri-series and seal a spot in the final of the tournament.
They will meet hosts Australia U-19 on Friday, 12th July at the same ground.
New Zealand U-19 won the toss and elected to bat first. India got a breakthrough only in the tenth over when Abhimanyu Lamba bowled opener Tim Steifert out for 5. Aamir Gani, who made his debut in the last match against Australia, took 2 wickets, dismissing Hicks (12) and Jamieson (34). Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Saif took 1 wicket each of Weerasundara (25) and Watson (3) respectively. Deepak Hooda was however the star bowler with 3 wickets for 26. He dismissed K McClure (9), Carter(5) and Tryon(13). New Zealand suffered 2 run-outs as well and were eventually bowled out for 119 at the end of 47.2 overs.
India U-19 were set a target of 120 in 50 overs; they only took 24.1 overs to make 123/3. Captain Vijay Zol shepherded the chase with his unbeaten 46 (70b 6x4 1x6). Akhil Herwadkar (25) and Sanju Samson (23) acted as catalysts, hitting quick runs in partnerships of 37 and 48 runs with the skipper for the second and third wicket respectively.
India U-19s have shown immense caliber in their game down under. Captain Vijay Zol has led from the front, scoring 284 runs in 4 matches (Avg 94.66, SR 79.55) with a hundred and a fifty. His consistency as captain has seen India U-19s perform emphatically throughout the tournament.
India meet Australia in the final match of the Tri-Series in Darwin on 12th July, Friday.
