India U19s thrash South Africa U19s to clinch Quadrangular ODI series
Captain Vijay Zol top scored with 71 to help India U19s thump South Africa U19s by 201 runs in the final of the Quadrangular Youth ODI series at Visakhaptnam.
Earlier, South Africa U19s won the toss and elected to field, striking right in the 1st over as opener Ankush Bains (1) departed without getting a start. His partner Akhil Herwadkar (25) then supported Zol from one end, as the skipper went after the bowlers straightaway. Zol’s 71, which included 6 fours and a six, stabilised the side for a while.
Post his dismissal, the middle order chipped in with important runs from Ricky Bhui (46) and Sarfaraz Khan (67) who continued their run of form. Deepak Hooda (32) then played a cameo towards the end of the innings to guide India U19s to a respectable total of 267/6 in 50 overs.
It was a disastrous response from South Africa U19s, who were bundled out for just 66 runs in 28.1 overs. Aamir Gani wrecked havoc with figures of 3/18, while Kuldeep Yadav (2/13) and Sarfaraz Khan (2/9) ran through the batting line-up along with him. Bains was involved in two run-outs and a stumping, which eventually led to a huge collapse, giving the India U19s a massive 201-run triumph.
This is Vijay Zol’s 3rd consecutive tournament win as captain of the India U19 side, with the previous two being a Tri-series victory in Australia, followed by one in Sri Lanka.
