The coolest RCB updates, served hot.

India’s agony continues

The story so far:

Three of the top four Lankan batsmen reached triple figures.
Four of the top Indian bowlers achieved centuries in the runs given away column.

And it’s only the second day of the second Test match.

More than the Indian bowlers, it was Test cricket that was bleeding on this day, even when the Lankan batsmen were making merry on a placid wicket that offered little to the depleted and tired Indian bowling attack.

The kind of wicket prepared for a Test match must have much to be debated upon by the cricket aficionados, but when there is so much brouhaha around the cricketing world on surviving Test cricket, the ongoing Test match didn’t portray a reasonable example in favour of the argument.

The whole blame shouldn’t be showered on the wickets though – yet another insipid performance by the Indian bowlers helped the cause. The Lankan batsmen feasted on the bait. Skipper Sangakkara carried on reaching a double century while Mahela Jayawardane notched up another century. Eventually Sri Lanka declared at a mammoth 642/4, leaving the onus on the Indian batsmen to save this Test match.

Sehwag did start on the right note along with Murli Vijay. But India has to bat the next two days to match the Lankan total and to save the Test. Either ways, it’s in the hands of the Indian batsmen to make this Test lively again. Because, I feel, India will not be in a winning position in this Test match in the next three days.

That would bring us to an interesting question: what do we want to see – a lively Test match which can achieve a result, or a remarkable effort (read counter-attack) from India to save this match.
