Rain washes out clash at the Chinnaswamy
The eagerly awaited game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Wednesday night was called off due to frequent rain interruptions.
Virat Kohli won the toss earlier and chose to bowl first. He was leading the side with Daniel Vettori out with an injury. Andrew McDonald replaced Vettori in the line up, the only replacement of the night after Gayle passed a fitness test.
Rain plagued the city in intermittent spells through the day and the showers post 8 pm were enough to disrupt the game. Covers were brought on and taken off in intervals but rain always resumed before the outfield could be readied and the pitch inspected. The umpires Sudhir Asnani and Billy Doctrove finally called off the game at 11 pm after consulting with the curator.
RCB are now joint 2nd in the points table with KKR and CSK with 9 points from 8 games each. Taking the Net Run Rate into account, RCB are 4th overall while DD lead the table with 10 points from just 7 games. RCB's next match is against KKR at the Eden Gardens on April 28th. Considering KKR's previous game against DC was rained out at Kolkata on Tuesday, the players and fans of both RCB and KKR will hope a repeat does not happen on Saturday.
