IPL 2012 schedule announced
The 2012 Indian Premier League, the fifth edition of the tournament will begin on April 4th at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and end on May 27th, again at Chennai with a total of 72 matches played.
As per the format changes announced earlier by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the IPL will follow the original format of every team playing each other once at home and once away. A player auction will be held on February 4th with players from the defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise available.
The qualifying stages have been retained from the IPL 4 model where two qualifiers and one eliminator will decide the finalists instead of the top four teams playing two semi finals.
The first qualifier between the top two sides on the points table at the end of the league stage and the eliminator between teams number 3 and 4 will be held at the home ground of the previous year’s runners up, the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The opening match, the second qualifier- between the losing team from the first qualifier and the winner of the eliminator and the final of IPL 5 will be held at the home ground of the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
RCB will begin their campaign against the Virender Sehwag led Delhi Daredevils at Bangalore on the afternoon of April 7th.
