The disappointing first match loss to Kolkata Knightriders is a thing of past. It’s time to look forward. The future lies at the Kings XI Punjab tie on Tuesday, March 16.
Outside the stadium, today all roads in Bangalore will lead to Chinnaswamy Stadium, for the lucky ones who have holds the ticket. For those, who doesn’t, their eyes will be glued to the television sets.
Inside the field, it will be an epic battle between the bat and the ball. The 22-yard strip, being a batting dolly, will offer no recluse to the bowlers for sure. In these conditions, a strict regimen by the bowlers – tight line and length, targeting the off and middle stumps – complimented by disciplined fielding will decide the outcome of the match.
A par score of around 180 is the order of the day, anything beyond will be welcome. In such a scenario, will the toss be an important factor? The pundits surely feel so, but there are others, who think that in 20-20 it’s the team which gathers momentum from the start ends up on the winning side. RC coach Ray Jennings simplified 20-20 cricket yesterday as a package of good performances during the three phases of the game – the front six overs, the middle eight and back six. It will be interesting to see how the team sets up the momentum for a home run.
For the moment, Jennings has much to worry in all departments of the game. In the last match, RC faltered everywhere and were beaten all square. While there is so much to learn from the last game, it is important to not to repeat the same mistakes the second time. He had already hinted at changes to be brought in the team which plays today’s match. Now it remains to be seen how the players actually execute the plans on the field. One thing they don’t have to worry is about the support and the loyalty to the team. Chinnaswamy Stadium will have a maddening crowd in Red and Gold lending their voice to the Challengers.
The 12th member – the fans – of Team Royal Challengers is ready for action. Now it’s upto those 11 wonderful men in Red to redeem the pride.
