Team Royal Challengers coach Ray Jennings is known for his straight talks. Team Royal Challengers coach Ray Jennings is known for his straight talks. Unable to hit the practice nets on Monday as Kings XI Punjab used the facilities at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Coach Jennings, though upset, took it in his stride. Easy going, one might say, but there is a deeper thinking beyond the obvious drudgeries of a gruelling schedule in the IPL, including the travelling, the logistics, the media protocols – how to get back to winning ways.
Simplifying 20-20 cricket, Jennings opined, “The game is about three phases, the front six overs, the middle eight and the back six. Winning or losing can matter in the front or in the back six. So the whole thing is to package the three phases together with batting and bowling and of course fielding.” Is there pressure on the team? “Off course there is. Three of last year’s semi-finalists have lost their first matches in this year’s IPL. Pressure is on everybody, even on the sides who have won two out of two, so nothing changes. We are used to handling pressures. Last year we lost four matches on the trot and still bounced back. So we have lived this life before,” Jennings sounded positive.
There’s reason for this energy. The team is playing at home! “I am looking forward to being infront of the home crowd. I like the Bangalore people to be behind us. I would like to make sure that our performance at home is good and hopefully the players will play to their full potential tomorrow,” Jennings sounded positive.
Team RC’s game against Kolkata left much to be desired. But Jennings has complete faith on the seniors in the team to take up the challenge head on. “Dravid, Kumble knows the Indian conditions and wickets better than anybody else. Boucher, Kallis are all experienced players. The tactics is to adapt to Indian conditions.” But Jennings is also aware that in 20-20 cricket, anything is possible, “One can make good decisions and still lose at the end.”
Despite the loss in the first game, Jennings is positive the younger brigade is the team will fire all cylinders. “I am very hopeful on the younger players to win games for the team. I am gunning for Manish, Virat, Robin to fire.” However, the coach reiterated that the team combination is totally flexible and open right now. “We will look at the wicket and then take a final call whether we go with two spinners or three seamers, whether we go with an international spinner or an international fast bowler. So there’s quite a lot of permutations possible.” That underlined his intentions, also who’s the boss!
Kings XI Punjab skipper Kumara Sangakkara also exuded confidence on his team’s performance. “We go in with seven batsmen and ideally everyone should contribute and if the key batsmen can score, it will surely help the team,” Sanga quipped.
steyn needs to learn how to bowl in shorter format,
only pace is of no use, he never tries to bowl cutters or slow balls wch are very vital, this is were nathan bracken was very gud at.
Batting should be opened with the positive attitube. Keep Dravid at no. 1 and use Boucher and Kohli as finishers. Variations in the bowling is the key... Common RCB...
I think a wise thing for RCB to do right now is to opt for Boucher as a wicketkeeper, who not only exudes confidence but also sends a chill down bowler's back as a batman.....
And also, I think Manish Pandey should open the batting with Kallis. It would be heartening to see this line-up----
Kallis
Pandey
Virat Kohli
R Dravid
C White
M Boucher
Robin Uthappa
Van Der Merwe
Praveen Kumar
Anil Kumble
Vinay Kumar
In Indian Subcontinent, it has been observed that fast bowlers have been thrashed for runs, even if you miss the line or length by just a margin. In past few matches, spinners and medium pacers have been seen doing well - like Karthik, Symmo, R Ashwin. I am not in favor of Dale Steyn, as he is not accurate enough and gives away many runs in the opening overs. Someone like Cameron White (who has emerged into the Australian main side from t20s only) will do the trick.
Aarsh
My team would be..............
1. Kallis
2. Uthappa
3. Dravid
4. Morgan
5. Pandey
6. Kohli
7. Boucher
8. Roelof van der Merwe
9. P kumar
10.V kumar/Mithun
11. Kumble
I would like to see Boucher in place of Goswami and Vijay in place of Steyn.
Also, Uthappa should open with Kallis and Dravid should bat up the order if we loose 2 wickets early.
this team is a creator of wonders in the game of cricket!!! t20 cricket... the red devils will sure bonce back in style... fingers crossed for the best to strike!!! my pick for todays good performance would be kallis, dravid, pandey, morgan, and bowling i guess kumble, praveen roelof should do the trick.. all the best guys...
Well... I really wondered, at Kolkatta, the pitch being on a slower side, Dravid could have had come at 3 bcoz of his experience. Manish & Virat could have had handled pressure during the later stage of the matach. Nevertheless, failure is the stepping stone for success
My team for today's match...
Robin Uthappa
Jacques Kallis
Rahul Dravid
Cameron White / Eoin Morgan
Manish Pandey
Virat Kholi
Mark Boucher
Roelof van der Merwe
Anil Kumble
Praveen Kumar
R Vinay Kumar
for me.....morgan should fire....against punjab hes got extreme talent, only thing he should play any risky shot like first game..he should be promoted up to no. 3 batsmen...
i don think kallis should bowl for more than 2 overs cos he is always under extreme pressure always while bowling..so make some others to bowl the other 2 overs..we need vinay kumar or mithun in the team..and dale as well..and please change the keeper..:)
all the best...
