Karnataka enter Buchi Babu final
Karnataka State Cricket Association XI beat Mumbai Cricket Association XI by 5 wickets in the semi final of the All India Invitational Buchi Babu tournament played at TI Cycles ground in Chennai on 29th and 30th August.
MCA XI won the toss and chose to bat first only to see Abhimanyu Mithun send back opener Swapnil Salvi with the fifth ball of the first over. Anchored by opener Kaustubh Pawar’s 97 and later boosted by no.5 Nikhil Patil’s 83, MCA XI recovered to post 303 before they were bowled out in 90 overs.
KSCA leg spinner Amit Verma took 5/78, he was supported by KP Appanna who took 3/76 and Abhimanyu Mithun (1/40).
Opener Robin Uthappa (54) and no.3 bat Ganesh Satish added 58 for the second wicket after opener KB Pawan and Uthappa had added 46 for the first wicket. Manish Pandey then chipped in with an aggressive 35 off 26b before Mumbai dismissed him and Amit Verma within the space of a few deliveries to peg back KSCA to 146/4.
The match was at a crucial point as Mumbai sensed opportunity with KSCA still needing 158 with 6 wickets in hand. But next man in for KSCA, RCB’s CM Gautam made sure that MCA were shut out of the match, adding 156 for the fifth wicket with Satish (83).
Gautam ended unbeaten on 94* (104b, 4x13) as KSCA XI sealed the match by 5 wickets to take them to the final of the Buchi Babu tournament.
KSCA’s only loss of the tournament came in their first match, against Kerala by 4 wickets. They will want to make amends when they meet Kerala in the final of the tournament to be played on 2nd September at the Guru Nanak College Ground in Chennai.
